Looking for a Christmas gift. What do you all recommend as the best DVD player. Given that BlueRay is all there is to chose from now...I'm totally confused.

Happy Thanksgiving and thanks for your input.

We love our Samsung BluRay. I highly recommend getting one with Internet access if you have wireless at home. You can link to Netflix or Blockbuster and upload movies and TV shows instantly. It's a nice feature when you don't want to head to the video store. Happy shopping!

What's a DVD player? :)
Honestly, I can't believe the things I live without now that seemed so essential 2, 5, 10 years ago. I bought the Blade Runner DVD before I even had a player 20 years ago. Now, I never buy DVDs. Have not bought a music CD in at least 5 years, maybe more. I have this sleeve full of DVDs and it just seems so sad...

Yes you have a point - I have just given up collecting things like that though. I am still paying rent for a storage space in Brick with my 500 albums in it... :)

PS sorry for the hijack of the thread - bad form from me.

Terry, don't apologize...I still have a little TV in the bedroom that has a built-in VHS in the bottom of it! I figure someday my son can sell it as an antique! :D

I would imagine that downloading a film at 720 or 1080p with 5.1 sound would require a huge amout of bandwith. It doesn't freeze up and quality is still good as adisc?

PS best box set ever

Yes, the streaming video from Netflix is great. I have not had a problem with it having to pause. When you buy a DVD player, get one that has the wifi connection already in it, not one that is just wifi ready.
