How far out can you renew your passport?

Just thinking next year when we head down our passports will still be good until 7 months before they expire, should I renew them before we go? Or just wait until after we back? Curious to see how far out you can renew your passports?

You can renew them whenever it is convenient for you. If you renew before the passport expires, they will add the remaining time on your passport to the new one. So, if you renew when you have seven months left on your old passport, instead of expiring in 10 years, your new passport will expire in 10 years and 7 months.

Thanks! Maybe I will renew "ahead" of time.
