We have started packing and can't wait for our first trip to St. John. Seeing that we have never been to the island I was hoping to get ideas from all of you on restaurants that we should not miss. We will eat breakfast and most lunches in our villa and eat most dinners out.

The wife is excited for good seafood. I want to make sure we pick a good place for Thanksgiving dinner. We are open to both casual and upscale places. We will be on island Nov 18 - Nov 26. It will be my wife and 3 kids (11, 9 and 7)

With Kids in tow, You may wish to consider Caneel Beach Terrace at Caneel Bay. They have a Grand Thanksgiving Buffet for that day. They have a teriffic selection of surf, turf, fowl, pastas and anything else you can think of. Your kids should be able to find plenty to please them and I know you will too. Happy kids make for a happy Thanksgiving Dinner. Have fun, if you choose this route you may want to call Caneel to make reservations. I understand this is pretty popular. They also maybe able to email a copy of their offerings as they did for us in '09.

I thought of one more question in addition to great seafood and Thanksgiving day recommendations:

Are there any restaurants that are not kid friendly where we will not fell welcome.

We arrive probably on the 6:00pm ferry this Thanksgiving too. Last year we found not as many places as we thought to be open when we arrived in Cruz Bay on Thanksgiving around the same time. Any suggestions for getting food later appreciated. Take out is totally fine. Last year we got sandwiches to go from Crazy Crackers which is no longer.

We love Shipwreck Landing's fresh seafood dishes, casual atmosphere and view of the water. We've never been to STJ for Thanksgiving, but it sounds like a great idea. Have fun.

Hi mask and fins, our family will be on STJ for the first time Nov 19th - 28th. We thought about Asolare or Waterfront bistro for a special Thanksgiving but rbd1204's caneel suggestion sounds great. Hope you and your family have an excellent vacation and here's hoping we all have excellent snorkeling experiences.

Zozos does not allow children under the age of five. That is is the only restaurant with age restrictions that I am aware of. I really cannot think of any place that you would feel unwelcome dining with children. Maybe Asolare would not be the best choice, just because meals take quite a long time there.

We have taken our son to STJ since he was 4.5 months old. With the exception of Zozo's, I would say the island restaurants are kid-welcoming.

Your kids are well beyond Zozo's cut-off age so I wouldn't let that stop me from eating there but they do not offer a kid's menu and their regular menu is sort of limited. Just mentioning that in case you have picky eaters in the group. During our February visit, the one child ate off the regular menu with no problem but some adults had a harder time ordering food they were willing to eat.
