Next year is the hubby's big 4-0 (geezer!)

. Anyway, I want to surprise him with a trip down to STJ/BVI. My plan so far is to surprise him on his birthday by flying down to the islands. We would stay with mom and dad at their house in Coral Bay for 2 days....then I would like to leave our daughter with them at ther house and then go somewhere relaxing, quiet and romantic for 3 or 4 days and then come back and stay another week back on STJ. So I am looking for a neat place to stay in the BVI's....it can be anywhere and on any island. Bransons island (Guana Is.?) is neat but just a LITTLE outside of my budget....bu love the idea of a private island. Anyway, thanks for the help....I knew I could count on you guys!

What about Guavaberry on Virgin Gorda? Lots of forumites have stayed there and loved it.
Or, if he is in to pampering/spa--Little Dix Bay.
One last thought...I have never stayed here, but it is high on "the list," Biras Creek. No phones, no tvs, bikes outside the room, romantic.

if you are looking for a resort experience, I can not recommend Biras Creek enough.
It is small, quiet, and just all around wonderful!

We stayed for our 20th at Longbay Resort on Tortola.
Had a beach front cabana and loved it.
We had the adventure package ,that included breakfast, car for a couple days of exploring, daysail, and a couple dinners at resort.
Beautiful half mile beach at our doorstep !

If you have any interest in chartering a yacht, you probably could charter one for four days. If you are intrigued but have never done it, its a fantastic way to see the islands.
We spent half our honeymoon on STJ and half on Yacht Phaedrus. Definitely worth checking out.

We have stayed at Little Dix and loooooved it. Sister spent her honeymoon at Peter Island and loved that too. I have also heard great things about Bitter End YC if you love watersports/sailing. On my list to go to someday. Heard Biras Creek is fantastic. We loved VG- fun to explore and has the "undiscovered" STJ vibe, I think. So great of you to plan a surprise like that!

Sir Richard Branson has 2 islands off Virgin Gorda -- Necker Island , his 1st development and quite famous - and now Mosquito Island in North Sound - more of an eco development.
Guana Island was owned for years by the Bigelow Tea family and is a very nice private resort - it is all inclusive and very genteel. I recommend looking into it for your retreat.
Biras Creek is also a good idea but it is very upscale - the GM Rik Blythe has made this one of the most desirable vacation spots in the Caribbean.
You might check the "W" resort on Vieques - very private and beautiful beaches.
The Love Shack on Lovango Cay was mentioned - an interesting choice for sure.

I honeymooned at Biras and while it is slightly upscale, I would put it on the same atmospshere as Caneel, just a smaller scale so it seems more luxurious.
The rooms are large, with a sitting area and seperate bedroom, very nice outdoor shower. Each room is given 2 bicycles to get around the resort. There were no TV's in the rooms.
The resort is small and intimate. All your meals are included and the food was incredible. They ask that you dress for dinner, but that means no bathing suits and t-shirts, really. No Ties or jackets required.
The staff was amazing, knowing our name from the moment we arrived.
If you are looking for a romantic getaway, I would highly recommend it. By far the best tropical vacation we have taken and can not wait to get back, hopefully for our 10th anniversary.

I'm with Crasherino. If you're at all interested in a sailing vacation, Yacht Phaedrus is highly recommended. Consider it an upscale B&B (and lunch and dinner) on the water. Charles and Leslie (and lyla) are the best hosts.
We did 3 nights for our 15th anniversary and a week this past April for our 20th. Outstanding is all I can say. (
