OK, so our first day of vacay, we walk up to get our car at the Amore Bldg. w/ Donald Schnell. Drive up to Starfish market to get groceries and rum, of course. Big decision on what flavor!! Oh well, no prob, they have a box set of 5 different flavors! Now able to compare! Head on out to Hawksnest for our first day. Its a tradition to always go there on first day. Lovely as always, with only a few little groups of people. We always pack a cooler with sandwiches and drinks and fruit. Leave the beach by 2 or 3, and head back to relax and have happy hours by pool. dinner at the new restaurant "Cactus On The Blue". Used to be Stone Terrace. Only 2 tables of people. We find out that they have only been open for 3 days! Food was decent, not too pricey, friendly service. Hope they do well.
Saturday morn we go for a nice long walk all around the residential area behind Gallows. Love to see how things stay the same, yet always a few changes here and there. There is a new complex down the hill by Cocnut Coast condos. Right on water ( Turner Bay) Looked lovely. Renting through VRBO. checked it out, Beautiful pics, but pricey!!! There are alot of places to stay in that price range, and not sure I would pick therre! I would think that the owner would run a special to entice people at first. Look it up on VRBO and tell me what you think.
So we drive out to Maho to spend the day with bro and wife. Rent kayaks right there at Maho Campground and kayak all the way out to Whistling Key. Beautiful ride out there, pull the boat up on shore, near the old customs house. We snorkel about halfway around the islan. OMG! I cannot tell you how beautiful and unspoiled the coral formations are! We must have been in the water a long time becasue we all were quite shriveled by the time we got back to the kayaks! Rested awhile, and then headed back. We wanted to beach around the point of Mary's point, but too tired. Was told the snorkeling is fantastic there, too. this was one of the best days and would recommend thsi little trip to everyone!
Bro and sis packed up a few things and came back to town with us. We had dinner at Fish Trap. Again, just a few table here and there. Another very good meal and desserts were great!!

So glad you enjoyed great snorkeling around Maho and how cool that your bro & sis-n-law are working there for the whole month!! :D
Did they tell you about the crazy downpours from Tropical Storm Otto? How were the mosquitoes? Hopefully not in full bloom while you were there.
Post some pics if you can!

Enjoying your trip report. Such a different experience going in the fall compared to a couple weeks ago. Would love to go in the fall some time. Gallows is also on my 'some day' list, but so is Caneel, so are several villas...
