Other than Linne, who turned me onto this idea, does anyone else here have an induction stove top?
If so, what do you find as the positive and negative experiences?
We are seriously considering replacing our gas stovetop with induction.

I have a De Dietrich induction that I had imported from the UK about 3 years ago.
I ADORE my induction cooktop! My favorite part is the amazing control I have at low temperatures. Chocolate melting is a pleasure, puddings and gravies do not scorch. But it also has the power to put a good sear on things. I can boil water in just seconds!
I got a set of pots from Costco that work with it nicely, it also works fine with my le Creuset and All-clad pieces.
Mine has a timer on each hob, so that it turns off automatically if I want it to. Clean up is a snap.
If you are the type of person who likes to crash heavy pots around to flip foods, you might want to be careful of the ceramic top.
The cons - it takes a little getting used to if you are accustomed to the visual cues of a flame, mine makes a clicking noise and vibrations on the pots that bothered me at first.
My cooktop is only a couple of inches thick. I have drawers installed under it with my cooking utensils and hot pads.
Since I bought mine, several American brands have become readily available.
Here's some photos of it on my Ikeafans blog.

There used to be several topics about induction on the Gardenweb Kitchen Forum that you may wish to check out.

Hi Terry!
As you know, I like ifloat ADORE my induction cooktop and with the same reasons, as ifloat tells.
I haven't had any problems with getting used to the noise from the cooktop. Some of the noises are a "service" the cooktop "tells" you if something is finished or wrong. But what I also like is that when you remove your pan from the stove, the plate isn’t very hot. So you don't need to worry about having children/grandchildren near the top. It can be hot, yes, but it doesn't scorch. You also save energy compared to an ordinary ceramic cooktop, but perhaps it's more expensive in use than gas- don’t know the price for gas.
I also use my Le Creuset pans on the induction.
Good luck with your investigation.

Oh I love to do this when folks come to visit who have never seen induction in action:
I put a paper towel on one of the hobs. On top of this I put my all clad saucepan with a few inches of water in it.
I turn the hob on high temp. The water is boiling within a minute. The paper towel between the boiling hot pan and the stove is unscorched.
Then I take the pan off the stove and press my hand down on the spot I just removed the pan from. It's a little toasty, but not painful.
The look on people's faces is priceless!

I'm totally sold on this product. Having fun with it in front of guests is a bonus!
There are so many new US companies picking this product up. Will have to do more shopping. The price has come down quite a bit.
We're not much into updated computer aps or things, but we are way into updated kitchen gear or other household necessities, like furnaces, etc. Must come from being married to a contractor.

Pia,
Thanks so much for posting the "gardenweb" site. We are making our big move to Florida in two weeks and we have a kitchen and two bathrooms that need remodeling. I can't wait to have time to spend perusing the kitchen and bathroom blogs.
