Hello,
Will be travelling to Honduras for a medical mission at the end of Oct, Anyone been to the capital? Not going to Roatan (unfortunately). Advice, tips...info welcome. Not sure what to expect. Laurie

A friend of ours went there on a mission last month. "That is a very scary city," she told us. She went on to say that even the Honduran children were afraid to go there. Crime and gangs are a major problem. Terry also said, "My advide would be to hold on to your purse tightly."

I have been on a couple of mission trips to Teguc. It's not really that bad. Now the landing at that airport is an experience! You'll see what I mean. Teguc is geographically in a bowl and the pilots have to be specially trained to fly in there. You see soldiers on the corners with machine guns which can be a little disconcerting, but that is the norm there. I'm sure your mission group will take any necessary precautions. I have friends who have been living there for 7 years and are full time missionary's. No problems.

I was there years ago and just follow precautions you would at any Central/South American country. Talk with the locals and you will find them to be very friendly and accomodating group of people. We drove with a caravan of trucks from Honduras to Gautamala and the only time I felt uncomfortable was at various check points and boys 12-17 years old with assault rifles checking our passports and the roads on the edge of mountines(I do not like hieghts). Kudos on your mission trip to help the people, you will leave with great fulfilment and new friendships. Laura
