Hey guys. Now that we can take a LITTLE hurricane breather, I wanted to put the ACC back up in front of our minds. How are they doing? I know there was a lot of help to get them through the initial crisis, but the threat of closure is far from over from what I understand.

Does anyone know how things are for them? We plan to donate again after my daughter's birthday party (she is collecting funds for the ACC instead of gifts). Hoping that they are still getting a TON of support!!

Thanks to a lot of people, the ACC got quite a few donations ($7,400 as of 8/25). They have another fundraiser coming up in October...so hopefully that will help a bit. Then another one in December. I would imagine that would help get them through for awhile, but they really need to find someone to help them get some grants. I wish I knew how to write one!!! I can't keep adopting dogs

I wish I knew how to write one, too! In the meantime I'll keep supporting as much as I can!

That is good to hear! With all the members on this site, there must be someone out there who is good at grant writing. Please help!!!

Great story- way to go everyone!!! It looks like they are getting some more help, but it's not over yet. Glad to see they are still in the news. Maybe as the holidays approach we can all try to think of ways to help raise more money for them. I know donations to the ACC will be #1 on my Christmas wish list!

So lets write a grant...Am I naive in my thinking, How Hard Can It Be?

I just googled "how to write a grant" and a ton of stuff came up. Will start to read it over the weekend to see if there's any hope that clueless newbies (like me) would be able to help in this. I have no doubt it's a complicated process, but sure worth the effort in my book!

I read in the article that someone that is part-time on-island had experience in this and was helping- anyone know if she needs assistance?

It would seem to me that the primary source for writing grants would be someone in the Education department. Principals and teachers are always writing grants. Some even take courses in writing them. I would check out someone in the school system. They require very specialized wording.

For some reason my security will not let me access the article-what did it say? Just a brief description would be great. Also anyone in city or county government, such a city superintendent-ours is also writing for grants would be another possibility. Just a thought.

I think that the ACC could really use some help in getting the word out to stateside folks for donations and assistance.
Without this board, many people would not know anything about the ACC.
There are so many ways to get the word out to visitors, with little to no cost.
A one page flyer handed out to all the rental companies for their villa guest books would generate a ton of interest and encourage folks to come by and walk the pups or make a donation.

I am sure that between the FB friends that they have and all of their friends, there is someone that woild donate their time to write a grant. Facebook is great in promoting a business or organization and it is free.
A blog is a great way to get people up to date on what is going on and what is needed. Again, Free and very effective.

I know it is hard for volunteers to find time to do all this, I completely understand how hard it is to take on just one more thing to help out, but I think it can be done and can be helpful.

With the increase of internet shopping these days (and the holidays right around the corner), you may want to check out iGive.com. You choose your cause (ACC is listed) and if you launch your shopping through the iGive website, a percentage of your purchase price will be routed to your cause. Percentages vary by store. I have used the website in the past for a different cause and it works wonderfully. At one point iGive had a downloadable add-on of some kind so that you didn't have to launch your shopping through their site, but it would still know you were an iGive shopper - don't know if they still have it or not.

I'm going to read all the info that B found over the weekend and see where I can help, for sure! Just have to do something.... I love all the ideas....
