Techni Ice

I see that a lot people are using Techni Ice to pack their Polar Bear coolers and taking frozen food with them to STJ. Is the Techni Ice the same as the blue ice packs? I've heard that blue is not allowed to be carried on airlines. Is Techni Ice allowed to be carried on the airlines?

I'm considering taking a polar bear cooler to keep beverages cold at the beach...and resupplying ice is a hassle...

Where do you buy Techni Ice?

Blue is different - Techni ice is made from the same absorbency beads that they use in diapers (non-toxic). We just shipped our bag from Boston to St. John using Techni, no problems, frozen food!

Techni Ice is certainly allowed in checked bags. There is some disagreement among TSA agents about carry-on use. The ability to get it past security is probably dependent on the airport and agent who looks at the bag. We put our Techni Ice in the bottom of the cooler and fill it up with meat. When they open the bag to inspect it all they see is the meat.

We bought ours from Polar Bear when we bought the cooler.
