Looking at the menues for Lime Inn and Morgan's Mango. Have not been to either... looks like I have been missing something! I have never had the Caribian Lobster, what is the general price that people usually pay? It looks great.

Never eat lobster there but Lime Inn has a super all you can eat shrimp night. It is Thursday or Friday. Never had a bad meal at Morgans.

Enjoy!

I wish lobster was $25.00 at ZoZo's - it is now $40.00 (see their menu) :)

I remember it being $25 per pound at the Greenhouse on STT but the smallest started well over a pound, I think it was 2 pounds the night we ate there so my lobster dinner was $50.

I also remember only larger sizes being available on STJ but don't remember the per pound cost.

$20 a pound.... They had 4 for specials @ Rumblime's on my B-day last year... I asked for the biggest... Turned out to be 3 1/2 lb.. I didn't ask the price before I ordered it, I reduced it to a pile of tiny shells... . along with a few patron margarita's in the pint glasses.... :D.. I will say it was the priciest Lobster I ever bought but I'll remember my B-Day dinner in ST John forever....It was priceless......

Wowza!
And I thought $25 was a lot when we ordered it a couple of years ago on our anniversary! (but I only got the tail without any sides)
If I have lobster this time around I'm gonna have to catch it myself!!

Yeah, Mr. PA had a $60+ lobster dinner at Morgan's in February. He thought it was worth the cost.

re: lobster at Zozos, I am fairly certain that you can get a lobster tail for $25 as a "surf and turf" option. Meaning you add the $25 tail only to the veal porterhouse, or the ribeye, etc. It's $40 if you want the lobster entree (bigger tail, as well as its accompanying sides).

I think the best value for lobster tail is probably at the Lime Inn. You order by weight, and it comes grilled with drawn butter and your choice of two sides.

Every once in a while I have seen fishermen selling it in town also, if you want to cook it at your villa yourself.

I saw a young kid trying to sell a lobster at The Lime Inn. The estimated weight was a whopping 10 pounds :P . They wouldn't buy it, as the Chef said it would be too tough to eat. I have a picture somewhere.

I loved every butter soaked, patron washed down bite!!
A local Lobster is what I want when I'm down there...you can get a frozen tail anywhere..The funny thing is, I was stayin at the Westin and I saw at least 2 dozen lobster's when I snorkeled up the side.... There were 3 or 4 that were 2 or three lbs. Most were small but I'll be ready next time.....I turned Matt, our waiter on to their location.....Steamed is better than broiled.....Spiney is a bit tougher than our northern bugs

It varies wildly where you get it at...I've had it at Hook Line and Sinker fairly reasonably (Under $25) and I've had it at the Equator Restaurant for over $70, my husband had to convince me to order it, as it's really is my favorite food anywhere but sometimes that price tag is hard to swallow

Like my good pal Vicki H I can just about eat my weight in lobster any where, any time. I love the stuff. A visit to The Palm near home usually yeilds an order for a 4lb Nova Scotia lobster and I don't necessarily share .

Compared to the Palm (which is not cheap by any standards at roughly $20-22 a lb.) I am always shocked at how expensive Caribbean lobster in the VI is since it's caught so close by. It's not like they flew the stuff in by air.

So I bascially end up paying the same for Caribbean lobster in the Caribbean as I would for Nova Scotia lobster in a high end restaurant here at home.

While I get why the prices are high in DC, I'm not quite sure why they are so high in the VI. I mean when you go to Maine you don't pay top dollar for lobster. So I definitely wish that someone could explain that if you are in the know.

All that being said....

The best bargain I've found for Caribbean lobster is on Jost. Harris' place, Sydney's Peace and Love, and One Love on the beach have really good deals. Usually the lobster, sides, bread etc for $40 -$50 depending on size. At Harris' place the large ones were positively prehistoric.

Of course once you factor in ferry costs that certainly adds to the bottom line, but if you're headed over there anyway and can spare some time for a long lunch it's definitely a good deal. IMHO.

If I can't make it to Jost, the Lime Inn is a good bet but NOT cheap. As others have mentioned you're talkign about $20 a lb.

Keep in mind that Caribbean lobster is all in the tail meat (no claws). It's a bit tougher than Nova Scotia or Maine lobster and is generally served grilled.
