November Trips!

Good Afternoon fellow forumites! There is a group of 10+ returning to St. John in mid-November - spanning Thanksgiving. We are fortunate enough to have two weeks to vacation in paradise! Thought I would see who else might be on-island around this time and also check into ideas for Thanksgiving itself. Who has spent time on STJ during this time? Did you plan something special, are some of the restaurants open? Any feedback would be appreciated! We are cooler people and we will be provisioning on STT before getting on the car barge.

Another thought, it would be great to have a Beach Bar get together on one of the Sundays - for us either the 14th or the 21st would work.

Hi kklay! I have not been on St. John at that time before, and I'm curious about what is open on Thanksgiving too. We are scheduled to arrive on the 24th, and I've started making some rough lists. I hope someone chimes in with some advice for Thanksgiving!
A BB forum gathering sounds great, but the only Sunday we're there is the 28th. Will you still be on island then?

A lot of the restaurants are open for Thanksgiving. Several of them will do a set menu and offer two seating's. A lot of shops are open as well, but they may close early. November is a great time to be here! The weather has cooled off a bit and the water is still pretty warm
Have a great trip!

We spent 12 days last November over Thanksgiving and everything was pretty much open. Weather was great but the water a little choppy because of storms out to sea. Plenty of restaurants for turkey dinner if that's what you want. Heading back Oct 27 thru Nov 15th because we enjoyed November soo much!

Does anyone have a list of who is serving (or was open in the past) on Thanksgiving? We will be there on that day also and would love to know what fine restaurants will be open and serving on Thanksgiving Day.

Skinnys has Thankspigging - fantastic place to be on Thanksgiving (probably not with small children though because it is very very crowded and it will test their patience if hungry) full of Coral Bay flavor

Thanks, Pia! I had forgotten all about Skinny's and Thankspigging! Probably the perfect place for our group!

We will be there the first week of November so a bit earlier than you. One question regarding the seemingly omnipresent mosquitos...are they less numerous late fall? Thanks.

We will arrive on Thanksgiving and leave December 5th. By the time we arrived and got around to eating, it was about 8pm. The picking were a little slimmer at that time and we ended up getting to go sandwiches from Crazy Crackers. Not sure if that restaurant is still open.

Marc, Our group has been there probably 9 times in the November timeframe. We've noticed a few bugs/mosquitos in the late afternoon/early evening time and if still at the beach, if you are in a shady spot you'll feel some "bites." However, alot depends on the rain - there is usually a brief shower everyday, doesn't last long, good opportunity to put on a hat, grab a drink and get in the water! Great time to be on St. John!

We will be there a week starting the Saturday after Thanksgiving. We were there over Thanksgiving in 2008. Best to call ahead. I seem to recall we ate at Fish Trap. It was just so so and you had to have reservations.
