I understand that they charge admission and offer services at this beach, but during the hours when they're not open, can you still get to the beach or do they block it off in any way?
Thanks for the help!

You can get to the beach when its not open. On the last day of our trip a few years ago we went there at 7 am. Walked right out to the beach and enjoyed our last couple hours before the dreaded walk of woe.
We were the only ones on the beach!

If you get there before they are open you don't have to pay but the rest rooms and showers are locked

I remember they started shutting down the snack bar around 3:30 and would only sell you "what was left" in terms of already-cooked burgers and dogs. Their inventory of ice cream and snacks was next to nothing by 3:30 as well.

thanks for the responses! I do doubt however, that we will get there at 7:00AM! We are coming from STT and by the time we choke down some breakfast, pack cooler, drive to Red hook (which should only take about 2 minutes), find a place to park, wait for ferry, etc etc, I'll say we'll do good to get there by 9:00

We were always there very early, before everything opened and we were the only ones there once. It was great!

When you are there all by yourself it is a totally different experience.

Agreed - early morning is nearly deserted and fantastic.

If you can make the 8:00 AM ferry out of Red Hook (STT) and quickly catch a cab in Cruz Bay, there's a decent chance no one will be at Trunk yet when you get there.
