Incredibly satified Canon customer!

Ok, so some of you know my D10 broke in Hawaii. We were sure we had it closed properly (we follow all of the instructions to the letter with this camera), but water somehow managed to get in and the camera was useless.

I always save receipts, but of course this is the one I can't find. Regardless, the camera was out of warranty (one year) by about a month and Canon also says it won't replace for water damage.

Anyways, I decided to try anyways and the girl who helped me on the phone was great. She was pretty reassuring and told me to write a detailed letter.

So I did, and in 8 days I now have a brand new camera!

Anyways, I just think great customer service needs to be acknowledged, and wanted all of you D-10 owners to know that Canon stands behind their product.

Obviously I am now a Canon customer for life.

As a loyal 20+ year Canon user, it is disconcerting that issues with the D10 seem to be cropping up.

Before they get too many returns or complaints, I hope that going forward, Canon will address any potential design or build flaws before they leave the factory. They do not want to incur the cost of returns and to their reputation.

Good to hear about your experience. I had a similar experience with an old Canon that I wrote about here in the link below. The sign of a great company is not that they never make mistakes, but how they deal with them and treat their customers after the fact.

My husband's opinion about the D-10 was that it is a water resistant camera, maybe good for on a boat or in the rain but was not meant to really go to 30 feet for any long periods of time. I am not sure about that. We have nothing but great luck with Canons.
Now I have heard about 5 people who have had problems with the D1-0.

I would say we usually go about 5-10 feet at most. The label is up to 30 feet.

I think this is the nature of the beast. I think it will apply to all underwater cameras in the end. Anything that has to be opened up to charge can get wet inside. (although I don't think our moiture was in the battery compartment). It might not close all the way, even if it looks like it is closed. Anything with a seam.

Even if they hadn't replaced I would have been moderately satified. We used it heavily for over a year, underwater for at least 3 vacations.

I do think we will devote this to being our underwater-only camera and buy an additional everyday camera (Canon!) That way it won't get everyday wear and tear, which I imagine over time the bumping or exposure to heat could eventually cause a small leak.

I hope that works.

As some of you know, I bought Leslie one for her birthday, and she brought it on our recent trip to STJ. She loved everything about it until it inexplicably wouldn't turn on at the beginning of our last full day on island, just as we were getting in the water at Waterlemon (hi sea-nile!).

I also had misplaced the receipt, but still had the email order confirmation from Amazon.com that I sent back with it as (hopefully) proof of purchase.

Got an email day before yesterday that their initial examination indicated that it was a warranty repair and that we should have it back, good as new, in about seven working days.

The anecdotal instances of similar failures that I'm aware of are disconcerting, but at least they seem to be standing behind their product from a repair/replace standpoint.
