Tornado!

Several tornados went through Western NY state on Saturday afternon. We watched the system appear on the horizon and pass right over our house, dropping little drips but not forming an actual tornado except before and after our place.
I drive this route to work every morning. On the way to work this morning, in the dark and fog, I swerved to the left to avoid what my brain knew didn't belong in this spot. On the way home, in the daylight, I stopped to take some photos with just my blackberry.
This is I86 that crosses NY state. The tornado came from the North:

That's normally all treeline.
It crossed the road to the South, and took out the gas pumps at the gas station in the distance:

Here's the Welcome to Randolph, The Amish Trail sign:

Thank God, the buggy was apparently unoccupied!
And then on through a cemetary, which was as far as I could safely travel:

Businesses were severely damaged, but no one was significantly injured. Scary, scary, scary, though!

You were lucky! I have to laugh at the way those boots ended up on that sign. It looks almost intentional!

Mary Beth, I'd have been scared to death, if I'd been stuck outside or in a stadium in that stuff!

DJmom, that looks like boots but it's actually a plastic/canvas sheet that attaches to the front of the buggy at about chest level (or maybe they hold it in place) to cut down on the wind in the buggy.

Minde-Happy to hear the tornado missed you but it must be hard to see so much damage to the areas around you.

Hi Minde,
Glad you were ok, those things are nasty.. Lived in NC for yrs and had one go thru our development on the one side of street. It stripped the paint off our car & took the shed, but thankfully house was ok.

How big is the Amish community up there? And where is it? Knew there was one in Ohio and a little one, near Cooperstown area but not one further west in NY. Enjoy visiting their areas, such a peaceful time and way of life.

Later
