I remember at least one TR on Costa Rica (but forget who posted).
What are some good websites to start researching? Is any time of year preferable?

Sun4mysouls trip reports are great!! Will you let me know what you find? We are thinking of going. We will only be there for 7 days so we can't travel to all of the different areas. Anyway, I have researched it a bit but haven't made any decisions. I have been in contact with sun4 and I am sure she will have some pointers.

I've done the north but would return in a heartbeat. Charlie's never been there at all. Not to the state. It's time!

Jayseedee,
We went to CR in 2008 and I loved it. It was probably my favorite vacation ever. We flew in to San Jose, drove to Arenal Volcano and spent three nights and then flew down to the Osa Peninsula and spent four nights at the most amazing jungle rainforest lodge.
Word of caution on the Guanacaste region: I have had several friends go there and be disappointed. Just know where you are going and avoid some of the "seedier" places.
Good resources to start with: fodors message board for Costa Rica. They are the BEST resource I found for the county.
I also used TripAdvisor, Fodor's and Frommer's for planning.
