St John Wedding

Ok, on to something more positive concerning my daughters wedding on St John this past May. Other than the little glitch with the break in the whole experience was one of the best I have had. It was the best celebration I have ever been to and I credit my wife Nancy for all the planning. I highly recommend the following people who helped make this a memorable occasion:

Katilady- Thanks for all of the on island planning, I reommmend her for any event. The food was great, set-up was outstanding, bartenders and servers on the ball. Everyone associated with her could not have been more pleasant. We had her arrange the large open Taxi's to pick everyone up from their villas and return them safe and sound at the end of the party. That was one of the best things we arranged and everyone appreciated it.

Anne Marie Porter- Thanks for a wonderful ceremony. We had a group of many denominations and she made everyone feel like one.

Yacht Cinnamon Bay- What a great boat and outstanding hosts. We did a sunset cruise for the whole wedding party and it was a highlight. Thanks to Dan and Donna! This boat was originally owned by Laurance Rockefeller and was used by his family on their visits to the island. Here is a good link to a review of his boat.

Albion Sewer- We decided to go easy on the wedding music and I walked my daughter down the asile, in this case past the pool, to steel pan music to the tune of here comes the bride. Albion is a local well known master of the steel pan. During dinner he really made everyone feel relaxed and ready for the party to follow.

In the beginning I was concerned about how all this would turn out but for anyone thinking about going this route for a loved ones wedding I feel its the way to go. Everyone had an easy time getting to St John, great accomidations all over the island. I arranged for a private taxi with Chris to get everyone as they arrived to the Red Hook ferry and then Dhoms water taxi to get the groups to St John. I have used both Chris and Dhoms numerous times and have never had a problem. All we had to do that could have been an issue was go by the court house in St Thomas and get the marriage license. We had sent the info a month before and followed up a week or two before. Chris took us by when we arrived and he knew where to park and waited while we got it. It was quite easy.

After the wedding week we moved from Peter Bay to Coral Bay. Coral bay is our favorite area, easy access to all the best snorkel spots and I feel the best restaurants. People are more friendly and laid back and music is better. We used Long Distance for a private sail and they were great. They picked us up at Skinny Legs where the boat is docked.

Cheers

We have used all of those busineses except Anne Marie and the musician, I agree, all top notch.

Which house was the wedding location?

We are trying to steer our friend's son toward a STJ wedding. The couple was on STJ with us in February and they loved it.

Hey Skipd! I was on STJ in early May, staying at the Hillcrest Guest House. There was an older (not OLD) couple from Atlanta. They were the sweetest pair and she had a lovely southern drawl. I believe her name was Margarita. (not sure if that's how it's spelled) Anyway, when we all met on the veranda in the morning for coffee, they told us about a break-in that happened the night before at a villa in Peter's Bay called Amorosa. Was that the same one? They were there for a relative's wedding and had gone on a sunset cruise also. If so, tell them Hi! from the ladies at Hillcrest, Nancie and Anne.
Bye for now,Nancie(can't wait to get back to STJ)in Pa.

Nancie, yep thats the one. I will see Herman and Marghuerita up at our mountain cabin in N. Georgia this weekend and will tell them you said hi. They live down at Fairhope, Alabama on the coast. They are no relation as I would not want to claim them! LOL. We cant wait to go back too.

Skip, thinking about hiking up to Tray Mountain this weekend. We should do a ATL forum gathering at the top.

Hey Dave, our place is about 3 miles from Springer Mtn, the beginning or end of the Appalachian Trail. Depending on which way you are hiking. Wonder how many forum members live in Atlanta and N Ga area?

Skip - I'm partial to Coral Bay these days as well for all the same reasons that you listed.

And am pleased with the expansion of restaurant options over the years.

Thanks for taking the time to share your experiences with all of the on island businesses. I'm sure that folks celebrating any kind of special event on STJ will find these recommendations helpful.
