We are on our fourth day straight of rain and thunderstorms down here! Yuck, yuck, yuck! It is still nice to be on STJ though.

Unfortunately I think that goes with the territory of travling in the "off season" thing. Good for cisterns bad for vacay.
I know you have PLENTY of reading material with you and no doubt you two an find SOMETHING to do with your spare time
After all,
"there's something sexy about the rain."
And based on your amazing culinary skills, we all know you won't starve

I hope you're in a villa that you love since you're probably spending more time than on a average trip. St. John is still great even when it's pouring. Hope the current weather front moves on soon.

I know how you feel! It rained pretty steady on us for 6 straight days. We found Skinny Legs to be quite the hangout during these rainy afternoons...as was the BB.

We were there for the first 2 days of the rain. Francis was packed with beach goers on Friday who spent the entire afternoon in the water with their hands over their cups. We were there for a little while and were amazed at their staying power (we could see them from our villa.) Day 2, we spent some time swimming in the rain at Little Maho. Now that was cool! If you haven't tried it, I highly recommended (as long as the lightning stays away, of course!)
Really though, 2 days of rain were enough, especially with kids. I feel for you having 4 days of it~

LOTS of rain here in Coral Bay. Pool is overflowing. This will be the second time we had to empty some water out of the pool. Would rather be at the beach too. Hopefully this wave will speed up and get outta here. Have fun shopping and drinking - that's what folks usually do in this type of weather!

wow - I think I would have gone nuts by now. I love St. John, but go for the weather and the beaches. I can sit inside and read at home.
Hang in there - you've still got some days left.
(there were tornado warnings last night around Leominster)

Well, look on the bright side... you don't have any skeeters!

What a bummer, though.

I have a request for someone looking for something to do in the rain. Go see what the icky, black stuff is coming out of the drain from the ferry dock. That is really starting to bug me.
Although, part of me thinks I might rather not know...

What a bummer - hope you are able to salvage a few days of sun! I am sure the mosquito population will be tripled for our arrival on Saturday. Just bought my 100% DEET.

Sooo sorry. Hope it stops soon! Worried about what's coming out of Africa. We will be there Friday.

Ugh! You have my sympathy. I know there are plenty of people who have the "better a rainy day on vacation than a nice day at home"...I am NOT one of them.
We experienced similar weather on VG in 2009, but with the added benefit of sub-70 degree temps....

@mkb: unfortunately when there is a large amount of rain there is some serious runoff from the island. You'll see it all over STJ from Cruz Bay to Coral Bay.
It contains a lot of not so great stuff and can lead to the closure of some beaches and waterways to swimmers for all the reasons you can imagine.
I seem to recall reading an article about an EPA govt person being brought on island to adress these concerns in the longer term but don't recall any recent updates.
The good news is that nature's filtering system works pretty well in the water and it usually clears up in a few days.

The rains have subsided a bit, but seems like more on the way after 3 1/2 inches over the past day. The 8,000 gallon cistern under my room has filled up and is overflowing. No swimming in the bay tonight.
