Have you ever done this?

On our boat trip in Maui, they stopped in a very deep water area and let people jump in "snorkel" to look at "nothing".

I think it was because at that point we hadn't seen much of what we were looking for (dolphins), so they wanted to let us look at something, at least something we hadn't seen before.

It was one of the most BEAUTIFUL sights I have ever seen and would have been a ball if our underwater camera hadn't just broken.

The clearest blue you have ever seen, nothing else except the people with you. It was like swimming in a dark electric blue.

(Actually I did see some tiny little flecks, which Ned informed me later- way later, thank God-that a lady had been barfing off the other side of the boat as we were in the water on the other.) UGH.

But I'll try (hard) to forget that!

But they dropped a quarter in the water and it just went down, down totally visible for a very long time. According to my girls, almost floated.

Cool.

So was it a swim with dolphins excursion and you never saw the dolphins? I am looking into doing this as well but would hate to be disappointed. And ewwwwww! Was the water really rough with the boat swaying a lot?

I always wanted to do this:

Go on a cruise and have them stop in the middle of the ocean...open the garage doors and let you in the water. I'm talking way out in the Atlantic somewhere.

I know it's probably about 47 kinds of unsafe, but the thought of swimming in water thousands of feet deep seems very cool to me.

The barf needn't be there though.
