Ladies, I need some beach fashion shopping advice

What do you wear as a beach cover up and where do you buy them?
I always wore sundresses, but they are long gone and I would love some little dresses that I can throw over my suit and head into town for lunch or happy hour. I hate putting shorts on after being at the beach, so I need a skirt or dress.
I have been searching everywear and I am not having very good luck.
Thanks!

There are a ton of different swim suit cover-ups at Target (or target.com), especially dresses and skirts. They've got plenty of colors and fabrics, too. Here's two of the dresses that I have:

Just an idea. Hope you find something that works for you!

MrsCARolph, I had gone to the Target website as well. Xislandgirl, I am planning on wearing a dress that is like a tube top. I got it from Target. It is shown as a skirt, but I'll be sporting it as a dress. The fabric is cool and thin---think it will be the thing I grab to coverup.

don't know if you'll like the colors they offer. Mine is brown. There's a black and berry.

I guess I am old. All those strapless ones look cute but for someone half my age or 1/4 my size
Don't they make those sarong-material dresses anymore?
off to keep searcing

Thanks Waterguy.
I guess I just want to be covered. I recently dropped 2 dress sizes and while I want to show off a bit, I would like to make sure that I am not half-naked in town.
I used to get all my dresses at Big Planet in Mongoose. Maybe I will have to do some shopping right off the ferry.

I have found some tank like dressees at Penneys and Kohls. Do you have Kohl's? They cover up your top and bottom, but are short and look like a dress. I'll see if I can find one on-line.

just before our trip last year I bought 2 knit skirts from Kohl's clearance rack. One black, one brown. Wore them nearly every day to the beach with a t shirt of choice. It worked well for me.

Thanks ladies. I took Tuesday off to get my hair done and to get new glasses and Kohls is right down the street from my eye doctor.
I see a shopping excursion in my future!

If you can get down to the Westbrook Outlet stores there's a place called California Sunshine. They specialize in beachwear and have cover ups. I was lucky enough to find a Peppermint Bay long dress there for BJ's wedding. I usually buy a Peppermint Bay dress every time I'm on STJ and use my older ones for a beach cover up.

my skirts are actually jersey material and rolled up in a ball with no problems

My wife bought one of these at a scuba show in Chicago... Not really stylish, but the material absorbs the water quickly.
