Wanna split an Oceanrunner rental in Dec??

Greetings all!

Hubby and I are thinking about renting an Ocean runner and just scooting up the BVI's (Cooper island beach club, snorkeling at the Indians) and just spontaneously stopping at some of the more tranquil unfrequented spots.

Flip Flop, Fla George and Charlie+Hubby, can attest that we are totally normal, low key, responsible, 30-somethings.

We'll be on island Dec 1-12 and were thinking about doing the Oceanrunner rental Dec 6 or 7 (towards the end of our first week so we don't completely fry ourselves!).

We'd love to split the cost of doing this if anyone out there might be up for the same thing. Past experience renting an ocean runner proves that a day rental + fuel costs will run $300 - $400.

Anyone else done this recently and can give us a realistic recent cost estimate?

Anyway, we'd love to split the costs with one other couple -- if there's anyone out there with a laid back attitude who'd like to join in the reindeer games.

My only requirement is that you have to be able to swim and be comfortable on the water. I know this seems like a given, but as we've learned from past experience (no Charlie, I don't mean you guys -- you were WAY cool) - it pays to ask.

Flip flop you KNOW what I'm talkin' about!!

Anway, if you think you might be interested, send me a PM or you can reply on the board. If there are no early takers, I'll repost this closer to December.

Oh and for the record, I've been traveling to STJ for 11 years, multiple trips and several trips on boats. A good friend of mine used to manage a charter yacht co on STT and was heavy into the sailing scene. He's taken me to some great spots over the years and I plan on having him help me to identify a few other cool spots before we go.

Lowkey and 30-something, yes. Normal and responsible, hmmmmmm. I am not sure I'd want to be held to that. Just kidding, you're good people. ;)

Thanks! This would be our first time doing the rental on our own, but I have had a good teacher over the years. I certainly don't recommend first timers rent and head out on their own (apologies to the rental co's) but I've spent enough time out on the water and practiced with someone who knows what their doing to get by.

Too bad you won't be in the neighborhood!

BillinVA-- Woohoo. We live in Burke but own about 5 acres out in Front Royal. Snow huh? Just rain in Arlington right now.

How much did you pay for your tix on American? I've been seeing the air fare on AA at around $325 but I was holding out for Delta to come down. Any thoughts?

Hello there neighbor. We got the tic's for $326 I think. We usually go on United but they haven't lowered the fare in a while and when I saw this I just jumped on it. Come to find out we had a bunch of miles on American that we had forgotten about and was able to upgrade to 1st going down. Gonna be a tight conection in San Juan. I tend to jump on any rate around $300. Got USAIR one time for $229. Are you guys divers? We did a surface interval at Cooper when I dove the Rhone a fews ago. Nice laid back place. Where are you staying? We have Southern Cross through seaviewhomes.com. Oh and by the way there is going to be a Va forum get together. RickG and I are trying to put a deal on..rumor has it that Jorge will make the trip! Hey buddy you listening!!!. Gromit you can call me at 540-349-9100....God bless..Bill

Hubby's a diver and I actually snorkeled the Rhone ages ago (same trip we stopped at Cooper)--with the good visibility in the water and one end of that puppy sitting at about 20-30 feet you can see alot. Hubby's always interested in diving but doesn't own his own equip. Most people don't know about Cooper, but I thought it was a pretty good little spot. Decent lunch too.

I'd like to get to Cane Garden Bay (Tortola) or Monkey point (Tortola - north side) that is if it's a calm day and the north swell isn't running.

We're at Anole this time, above Cinnamon. And we will probably be going out of Dulles too. Although if we can get a good price for Spirit we may go that route out of DCA. We're smack in the middle of DCA and IAD. I just *hate* going thru SJU. Talk about island time. One time we sat on the tarmac for 90 mins. I felt like a fish in a frying pan!

Hey there...We stayed at Anole a few years ago. What a view!!! It was my screen saver for a long time. We were in the bed room to the right of the kitchen on the main floor. The pool was cool but I think they have put in a heater. May want to check on that. The road was a bit rough but no problem. The lower side is a down hill drive that dumps you out near Cinn Bay. Did I say the the view was killer!! Our boat day will be the 11th as we will be going over to Sandy Cay to do our deal for our son and then to Soggy Dollar. It would have been his 40th b'day. Going to have a party at the villa that you are invited to attend by the way. Bob and Sharon, Mike and Jan and some of the local folks will be there. No pressure. It would be great to get together some time during your stay. Beach Bar, Skinny's etc...God bless...Bill

Hey which road do you take to get to the house Centerline or Northshore?

I think Jan aka Charlie wrote in her on line report of that prooperty that it's Centerline, but for some reason I can't picture it.

Guidance?

The road I don't care about. the rougher the better. Keeps the tourists away!

Whoops! I forgot to mention the thing about Anole. We accessed off of Centerline, it's not a bad road at all. Not paved, but by STJ standards, it's pretty good. This past December we drove our Wrangler DOWN that road all the way to Northshore Road (don't know the name). It's not bad going down, would definately use it to go TO the Northshore beaches, just not so sure about going BACK up!

Heya Jan!!

I swear we are on the same vacation schedule.

Yeah, we're down Dec 1-12. We're totally on our own this time -- let's get together! Sorry I've been so out of touch.
