Unfortunately the non-stop flight i had booked no longer exisits. Have to make a connection in San Juan. For those of you who've done this what should expect. Will I need to go thru customs and security etc. or will it be simple and hassle free?

Should be no problem. No customs or security check unless you leave the secured area of the airport.

The only problem with SJU is that there really is nothing good to eat in the airport. I know, all airport food leaves a lot to be desired but in SJU it's especially bad.

We've travelled through SJU quite a few times with no problems. Things have always gone smooth. I do agree that the food is lacking. There may be a higher than normal incidence of lost luggage. But that's an impression from forum posts, not from any real statistics. All airports lose some luggage. I've read some posts in which people go on and on about how horrible the SJU airport is, but from my experience, I really don't understand what they're talking about. Never crossed my mind to find another route.

It did a bit more involved when we flew into SJU from Tortola. Coming from the BVI we had to clear U.S. customs and we wished we'd given ourselves a bit more time between our flights. But it worked out.

We fly through SJU quite a bit. Actually had a decent lunch at the Mexican place in May - and the beer is cold.

Only had a luggage problem once. There wasn't enough space for all of the luggage for the SJU-STT leg (American Eagle), so we had to wait for the next flight to land with our luggage. We were catching a ferry to Tortola and luckily had a couple of hours to kill, so it didn't cause any delay with our plans. And the Caribes were cold!

Just had a 5 hour layover in SJ last week. It's nice enough. We got a great wrap and soup from a
"healthy" cart in the AA wing. There is also a really nice shop that sells Clinique and Coach and expensive sunglasses. I didn't buy anything though. My daughter spent a few bucks while there, to get internet. Worked great and kept her happy for 5 hrs.

What airline turned your non stop into a layover flight in SJU? Where are you leaving from? Man...I hope that doesn't happen to me

It's AA in Nov. I normally take flt 655 JFK to STT, and flt 412 from STT to JFK. They're both non-stop but are now no longer running on weekdays in the off season, they're only available on weekends and I can't change my dates.
