For the benefit of newcomers to the forum, as well as newcomers to the island chain itself. Please vote on your favorite USVI island from the major 4. I'd also just like to know which island is the favorite of my fellow forumites.

Larry, I had to laugh when I saw this post.
I'd say 98% of the people on this forum are St. John lovers...hands down.
STT, STX or Water Island doesn't have a chance.
And no, I didn't vote.

Unless you want to run the generator 24 hours a day - maybe a bit noisy and probably can't support your rental villa Air Conditioners you might want to be nicer to STT or they might just pull the plug!!!

Pull the plug! St. John go solar. Do you know how St. Thomas generates that electricity? It's the least efficient/ most costly method in existence.

For condo, restaurants, entertainment - STT
For beach, beauty, history - STJ
I love them both.
Lucky for me they are close enough together to visit both...many times.

That's much better: they power giant turbines with jet fuel.

I can't find that evidenced anywhere. Please cite your source for this information. That fact is HIGHLY unlikely and very impractical. Jet fuel burns wayyy too fast and its very very expensive.
I read that St Thomas has a lot of gas turbine generators, but all that I can see run off natural gas. They are certainly converted jet-style turbine engines, but they don't run on jet fuel from what I can see. Jet fuel is about $6 a gallon on St Thomas (

According to these EPA permits, St Thomas has oil fired generators.

Why is St John the island of choice for this forum?
