I have photoshop and use the basics to improve my underwater photos. I got instructions on the net on a more detailed method using fill layers, blending modes etc. I have been trying over and over but cannot get it. Anyone have any info on this and perhaps better instructions.

Check at the nearest community college for beginner courses. I took an evening course with my daughter and we had a great time. I work in Photoshop almost daily at work and I don't know where to begin to teach anyone how to use the tools. That's why I let a more gifted teacher train my daughter in the basics.
There's a decent "Photoshop for Dummies" book that might be a good starting point. Remember to open the History tool, with it you can undo almost every mistake. :D

One thing you can try is when you have your photo open in Photoshop, create a new adjustment layer and use the "hue/saturation" mode. This way you can take out more cyan, etc. and give the photo more saturation, etc. You can also create a new adjustment layer with "levels". Here you can add more black to the darker areas, and more white to the lighter areas.

Here's a good explanation about using adjustment layers, etc. in Photoshop.

Although through trial and error, I have figured out how to do my underwater pictures. I am apparently too dumb for Photoshop for Dummies. My husband got it for me. It really embarassing to not understand the "Dummies" books.
