Traveling with my 10 yr. old daughter this year to St. John, can anbody recomend a good snorkel trip. Daughter does not have a passport, so anything to the BVI's is out.

No boats really necessary...I don't know if you've been before but many of the beaches have great snorkeling in shallow water. Trunk is an obvious choice to get acquainted with snorkeling but it can get busy. Francis Bay might be a good place to start (along the right side) or Maho Bay.

If you want to do a sailing trip I woudl highly recommend Capt Phil chalker on wayward sailor--he is terrific, very VERY knowledgeable and he gets right in the water with you.

I think he would be a great choice for a 10 year old. His trips are very educational and he is passionate about what he does.

Captain Phil had a 5 year-old and 3 year-old in the water snorkling last month. If you want to get in a boat, he is your man.

Another easy choice is Hawksnest. It's a nice sandy beach with close parking and restrooms. You can walk in and find coral and fish within 30 feet of the shore in about 3 feet of water.
