Got an unexpected bonus at work today. We are travelling this summer for our 3rd visit to SJ. I want to take the family on a boating excursion, which we have never done. We have never been to the BVIs and would like to do something like that. We have 3 college students and one HS student. So, I would prefer to skip the watering hole visits! Where to snorkel best and enjoy the sheer beautiful of the BVIs while on a day trip?? Thanks!

Capt. Phil Chalker can take six passengers to Jost. We did this trip in 08 and everyone enjoyed it. He gets in the water with you.

Capt Phil Rules. We're going on our 2nd trip with him in July. It's a small boat and he can take you to the BVI's or on a 2-stop snorkel trip.

You probably already know, but just in case remember you will need passports.

If you go pwoer, you could hit the Baths and a stop or two along the way and lunch on one of the islands.
We did a power boat trip one time and had lunch on Cooper Island, which was neat. Less of the party/drinking scene than White Bay as there is only one bar on the island.

Well, we go every year with high school, college, and 20 somethings. We've done many charters with Phil but not to BVI. It makes no sense to us as he's fighting the wind with a sail boat, better to be more local with Phil....but we do love going with him.
What the kids have always loved is the powerboat to BVI out of Cruz. There are many to choose from that have been discussed on the forum, they're all good. Here are must see's in our opinion for first timers:
1. Snorkeling at Indians.
2. Lunch at Willie T on Norman. My wife and I actually like Pirates Bight better, its in the same bay, but the kids will love Willie T's.
3. Sandy Spit off of Jost. Very cool spot, the kids love it.
4. Soggy Dollar...the college kids can get a drink there, I'm sure it's not their first. Your high school kid can get a non-alcoholic drink there....it's a great spot, fun experience.
I don't necessarily recommend going to Baths, it's a long haul and you'll use alot of gas for which you pay. If you stay closer to STJ you can fit more things in.
Plus, as someone mentioned above, make sure you have your passports.
have fun!

Palm Tree Charters- Captain Brandi- another great choice for power. He took us to the Baths, Marina Cay (Key? Cay? I always get confused), then back around the north shore of Tortola to Sandy Cay and ended at Soggy Dollar. Made it all in one day and it was great! No snorkeling, though- will do that next time.
