I know this has been done but I never tire of hearing about it....what are your 3 top snorkels in STJ? Everytime we head down, I like to have a couple of new ideas in my back pocket!

This list is ever evolving since we add new ones each trip, but...
Waterlemon is always on our must-do list. It's the only one so far that we've done multiple times each trip.
I really enjoyed Haulover South last time. The conditions weren't right to check out Haulover North, but I'm looking forward to it.
Blue Cobblestone is great, too. The last trip we spent a lot more time there, and it was worth it.
There are still a number of places, particularly along the south shore that we haven't seen that I hope to check out this year!

From shore my current favorites are
Scott Beach for turtles, rays, and good coral to the right
Haulover North for amazing coral
Great Lameshur to Tektite for larger sea creatures and exciting deeper water snorkeling

My two cents worth would be the right side (from the beach) of Waterlemon, always a silver river there of fish. Salt Pond early morn for turtles. And, from the water, anywhere Capt Phil anchors.

Where would one most likely see an octupus?

I couldn't say by site, but I look in shallow water, near boulders and/or piles of rubble.
Keep an eye out for piles of empty clam shells - that often is the "dirty dishes" from an octopus' dining room.

Octopus spotting requires patience... a lot of hovering and looking. We've had good luck at Hawksnest along the ridges close to shore.

Francis is another good spot to look for octopus, on the right side in the rocks. Not close to shore, but start looking about 2/3rds of the way out.
I have also found octopus at Caneel Bay's public beach, their private Scott Beach (the most), Haulover North, and Vies/Hansen, off the top of my head. I've found octopus gardens at Frank Bay, but no actual octopus...yet.

my 3 favorite spots on the last trip were Francis, Salt Pond and Waterlemon.
saw a lot of turtles at Francis as well as a spotted eagle ray. really cool. we actually went to Francis twice. All the way on the right there is a fairly prominent cactus out on the rocks. That's about how far out that stuff was, just out over the grass.
