Hi Everyone.

US Air did not have any of their lowest FF award tickets for a direct flight to STT this year so we are flying into SJU and then flying over to STT. This will be our first connection through SJU.

If you have made connections through SJU how much time should we allow between flights? We will be doing carry on only. We have 2 options. The first layover is 1 hr 32 minutes.Do you think that allows enough time? I'm not sure if we have to go through security or if it is the same as a connection in the states. (one gate to the other) If this is too short, the next layover is 2 hours and 22 minutes.

No problems - 1 hr 22 min is fine - you just go to the gate like at any airport in the States :)

Are you purchasing the STJ to STT leg? I've found that it can cost as much to get to St. Thomas from San Juan as it costs to get to San Juan from the east coast. Usually more than $200 RT.

Thanks Pia!

Steve,
Yes, we are going to have to buy the SJU - STT leg this year. We usually fly direct to STT with award tickets, but this year they do not have the lowest level tickets available. I think STT is getting more popular in the off-season than it used to be. We could do the higher mileage awards, but we would rather have the extra leg and still have enough points left in our FF account to qualify for our spring trip. The extra leg would cost us around $475 on AA compared to over $1400 from home into STT.
