My husband forgot to pick up his medication (D'oh!!!!!) and we'll call his doc tomorrow on landing--I assume that he can get a call in to chelsea drug??
has anyone been in this situation?--we leave at 5 tomorrow..... not life threatening, but not great.....

It happened to me once when I forgot a prescription and once when I got a sinus infection while on STJ and had to see a doctor there. Both times I had no problems getting prescriptions at Chelsea Drug. They didn't accept my insurance carrier either time though so I had to send it in myself once I got home.

We had a scrip called in to Chelsea Drugs while on vacation once. It's no problem. But they won't bill your insurance so you'll have to pay for it yourself and then turn it in to your insurance when you get home.

If he has refills remaining, he should ask Chelsea to call your pharmacy and ask for a refill. Get a price first!

Whatever pharmacy is in the Marketplace seems to accept major insurance carriers. I know this from my days working for one of them when I used to send mail to St John on a weekly basis.

I had a similar experience and had to get my doc to fax and Rx down.

Then I found out they don't take iunsurance!

I ended up only paying for the pills I needed for the duration of the trip (10), instead of the full months supply, in order to avoid the $200+ charge!!

They didn't take insurance, but were wonderful to work with. Dropped my last bottle on insulin and broke it. They called my pharmacy at home and got the prescription transferred, and filled it without problems.

It worked out great--we called the doc on Saturday and they called the scrip into chelsea and it was ready when we arrived...PHEW! only need a weeks worth--$65 for 8 pills......but glad we have it.

Randy, that is exactly what I thought when I first read the post. One of the greatest Rolling Stones songs ever.

I would like to reiterate what a few folks have posted. (I am a pharmacist). If your RX has refills, ask the pharmacist to call your pharmacy and transfer the RX. Only buy what you need for your trip to reduce the cost. Or have your doctor phone in the RX. Keep in mind that when you submit your bill to your prescription insurance carrier you may not be reimbursed the full amount (minus your copay). Some carriers will only reimburse you the contractually allowed amount for your prescription, which is almost certainly less than the retail price you paid. Insulin, inhalers and full-package only products will set you back some serious $$.
