We currently have and have always used ATT while on the Island so I know how their service is...But, does anyone have Alltel? If so how is the service on STJ ?
We are planning on changing carriers asap as ATT is crap in our area. Just curious if we should wait til we get back to change...

AT&T is the best on STJ followed by Sprint - I have never heard of anyone using Alltel here so I don't think you will have coverage.

We have Alltel and had decent service this past December. There were a few places where we didn't have a signal, but usually if we moved around a bit we could get a couple bars. We had good service right in and around Cruz Bay.

How bad were the charges for using it there ? With ATT the plan we have is STJ is covered...not sure about Alltel's plans

The only place we had roaming charges was when we got closer to Coral Bay and on a few of the beaches & our phones went to the BVI towers. When we got the bill, we called them and they took off the roaming charges. Your best bet is to ask them when you go phone/plan shopping since some of their plans have different coverage areas.
On a side note, that was a heck of a phone bill thanks to our 18 year old who somehow went WAY over with his texts. Maybe his way of getting revenge since he was stuck in -30 MN weather while we were toasting in the islands lol. Add that to our few roaming charges and it was a $1200 phone bill  Anyway, Alltel was good to deal with and removed our $30 or so in roaming charges (and our son's huge text bill).
