Okay...so incorporated into our Greece trip is now a side trip to Turkey. From the island of Lesbos...we are so close to Turkey and have been hearing wonderful feed back about the beauty of Turkey that we are considering a boat ride there and a tour.

Anyone been? Highlights?

During our 15 days on Lesvos we thought about Turkey but were a little put off by a British couple's story about their trip to a rug factory. The owners were hospitable and offered tea but pressured them relentlessly to buy something. I think they were part of a tour group. We tromped around Lesvos our whole stay. It is a wonderful island with such old world charm. I'd love to go back.

greyhoundmom, I've read several sailing blogs where people cruised in that area and what I've gathered is that you simply need to be firm when you say no and say no you must. It's a cultural thing, no big deal.

Whether it's China, Turkey, Egypt or any 3rd world country, you will be preyed on if you allow it. Everyone assumes we are all wealthy.

Visit anywhere you want but do some research on the net and learn the game before you depart. :D

My niece and her husband live in Turkey (on the US Air Base) and everyone who has visited them has loved the experience. Istanbul alone has enough attractions to keep you busy for a few days.

A guy I work with is taking his daughter there as a graduation present. She got to pick 2 Greek Isles and Dad said they weren't going anywhere unless she agreed to go to Istanbul (she was hesitant until the ultimatum). I know they are staying in the old part of Istanbul and they got an amazing deal on a hotel.

I know others who have travelled in Turkey and rave about it saying it's one of their better vacation choices.
