Hey Ya'll.. My gang of crazies will be down on STJ on May 1-9...We usually rent a boat from OceanRunners for 2 days and run around the BVI's... After mucho beverages last night we now have a major wild hair up our butts and have decided to try and spend the night on Jost...Has anybody here done that?..We called Oceanrunners , but didn't talk to Pete ,the owner about it..They didn't say no, but sounds like you have to have a mooring reserved over there in order to overnight the boat...Looks like Abe's and Harris's Place offer paid mooring in Little Bay but looks like we'd have to taxi over to White Bay or Ivan's...I know that there is not much in the way of accommodations, Seacrest has a 3 day minimum...has anybody stayed at Rudy's?.. Ive seen pix of Ivan's cabins from a trip report on "that other forum"...looks pretty basic,we'd like to spend about $100/couple..also checking into the white bay villas site...what do ya'll think ?

It's rather hard to spend one night on JVD. There just aren't that many places to stay. You might try the Perfect Pineapple or Gertrude's (one room) on White Bay.

Hey . Thanks guys... I figured out going into this that staying just 1 night would be tough...But, we are pretty low maintenance in our "accommodation expectations" at this point, we just need a place to lay some drunken sailors down for the night!..I'll check on Perfect Pineapple and Gert's...Thanks...also RE: 24 members of this forum on "the rock" at the same time...wooo.... I'll be on the look out!!..(I've checked out the show your face post)I hope they don't run outta' vodka at Woody's like they did last year on election day! See ya there, and at the Beach Bar, Skinny's ,Caps etc...It's gettin' close!

Hey Boat,

There are moorings at Ivan's, in White bay, that are sea-cure moorings, that you could stay over night on. The charge is either $20 or $25 payable at Ivans.
I think I read some where that Ivan has cottages, but there is always the Sand Dollar. Check out this link.

Hope this helps.

There is White Bay Villas up the hill from Ivans. Two years ago the moorings at Ivans were $20 per night. If you go to Ivan's look for Tal. He is a big white guy usually sporting a tied dye shirt who has some great stories. He's mentioned in a story by Gerald Singer at http://stjohnbeachguide.com/Hot_Pepper_Contest.htm.

There's some more good St. John reading at http://www.stjohnbeachguide.com/Culture/Culture.htm.

Cheers, Rick

Coool!...Ivan's is really where we wanted to be...and I know about his cabins..They are pretty basic but we're just looking for a place to crash...I guess I can talk to him about maybe reserving a mooring if we reserve some cabins...Man ..this makes my day!...Thanks Rick and scuba girl!

Oh ...I checked with White Bay villas and they have a 5 night minimum... and Seacrest has a 3 night min.maybe next year!!! Not too long now...I'm ready for a KIWI colada from JJ's...It is our ceremonial first and last drink on island..

How many people are ther in your group? We just came back a few weeks ago and chartered a daysail boat to do an overnight on Jost prior to going to St John this handled the boat and the one night accomodations on Jost. We sailed with Larry and Betty onboard Forever Young.

It was a great time and when you factored in the cost of the meals they served us, two lunches and one breakfast, what it would have cost for a boat for a day trip and the cost of hotel rooms it was reasonable by island standards. You might drop them a line and see what they can work out.

I think an overnight charter is a great idea!

Hey Capt Jay...we are a group of four...and I don't think anybody would want to put up with us, we can be obnoxious at times, no ones seems to act their age!!..the other couple going with us have bareboated mucho grande times in the BVI's and we always rent a boat as well...where did you stay on Jost or did you overnight on the boat?...We're having a pre-trip cocktail planning meeting this weekend so we can get some things hammered down...we're all pretty spontaneous...and we all love Jost...I think it'll be a blast.thanks for the info...

We stayed on the boat. Its a three cabin catalina and was fine for an overnight. They charged us $475 per couple. You couldn't rent a boat for two days for that let alone the food and drinks aboard. I just posted a trip report with more details. We had two couples on board plus Larry and Betty. There email is bettylarryus@yahoo.com you might send them an email and see what they have available they are fun loving couple and a blast to sail with. Tell them I sent you.

I've stayed at Ivan's last year for one night. It was great! Staying at Ivan's is very basic and simple. The cabins are just steps from the beach. It was just great to stay up most of the night just talking to few of the other guest and some locals including Tal. I'm looking forward to going back again this year for a few nights just because I just had so much fun there last year!
