Hey, is there anywhere in STJ to purchase a modest ($$) birthday cake....without preordering? Chef Seamus' cakes look lovely... a little pricey for my current budget, although I'm sure they're worth it.

This probably doesn't help much...but what I can tell
you is the small pre-iced / decorated cakes like
the ones our local Walmart bakery and grocery store
bakeries carrie for $6 to $8...were $21.99 at
Starfish market last week! BIL, who is a
store mgr. at a chain market nearly fainted when he
saw that price. Me too!!!

I think Starfish is your best bet. The cakes are big enough to serve a small group. Maybe they're ten to twelve inches in diameter? I will try to get a photo of the typical selections if I'm there later today.

P.S. I like cake also.

Whoa...I almost fainted too.
Thanks Ruth and Sherry for the information, though. Very helpful and much appreciated.

Baked In The Sun usually have a few cakes available and you can have them write Happy Birthday on them - beautiful cakes and delicious - my favorite is the white cake with fresh mango and whipped cream filling and buttercream icing - well that or the chocolate cake with chocolate ganache or..........

That sounds so good, Pia. :D Anything with Buttercream frosting makes me happy.
Thanks.
