Do you have an E-Reader? Is it worth it?

I received a Nook E-Reader for Mother's Day. I've often looked at the Kindle and Nook, but have never made the jump and probably wouldn't have done so on my own if it hadn't been purchased for me. Do you have one, and if so, do you now consider it a vital part of your life? Or, could you take it or leave it?

Also got one for hubby for Christmas (Sony e-reader).
He loves it. He uses it for his daily train commute as well as when he flies.

I bought a nook at Christmas and love it.
Several reasons-I am a book addict, and I don't like to give away books since I re-read them. So I had a room full of books which took up more space than they should have. Also, for vacation I'd lug around too many books, now they're just in one slim nook and depending on where I am I can download more. I can download magazines to the computer and over to the nook(have only started doing this), I also like that it always goes to the furthest read point since I'd never remember in the hardcopy book where I'd left off.
I try to be price conscious though-I'll go to B/N store and see what the price is of something and then check the nook-sometimes the nook price is not the best deal.
I like the new beta web feature too, and even stretch my brain playing chess
Have fun with it.

I got a Sony e-reader for my birthday. I like the ease of obtaining new "books," and it's easy to read in any light, so far. I do have to use a book light in dim light, but it's not difficult to read in brighter light.
My only qualm is that I can't share books anymore, and I feel really guilty and wasteful. Also, it's fun to read a good book and give it to a friend or my daughter, and then talk about the book later, and I can't do that with the e-reader. I'm glad I have it, but I'll probably still buy paper books for that reason.

How does one get over the lack of "sensory-ness" of not holding a book? I can never concentrate when reading off a screen. I hate it when a boss sends a 100-page PDF and says "Read this". I'm not printing it. So, I usually open it and then go play on Facebook for an appropriate amount of time and then fake having read it.
I just can't see myself getting into it. I'd like to borrow or rent one just to see...
And...I'm only 35, so I "should" be better able to adapt to the technology than some of you other old geezers!

Okay - update.
I decided to keep the Nook, and I have to say... I LOVE IT. I was pretty hesitant (for some of the same reasons pipinale listed) but now I have seen the light.
Since it is not a backlit screen like a computer, it literally reads like a book. So, to answer your question pip, you don't have any eye-strain or headaches like you do when you read from a computer screen. It really looks like a book page.
Second, it's so much lighter and easier to manipulate than a paperback. Since I have an infant, I find that I can read with no hands while I am feeding him - no hands required to hold the book open.
I also love how you can change the font and text size. I have had this thing less than a week, and already I have tough time picturing life without it. Kind of like my cell phone.

Funny, I just popped over to this forum to see if anyone was talking about Kindles.
I got one for Mother's Day and I'm loving it. I was a little hesitant because I too like the "feel" of a book. Within three days of reading "Just David" (great book!) I found myself reaching to the upper right hand corner of the Kindle to try and turn the page. So I'd guess it's safe to say it has a book "feel"! Not having the screen backlit makes a HUGE difference and it's not like reading on a computer/cell phone/iPad which can wear on your eyes and is almost impossible in bright sunlight.
Another factor that makes it especially nice to me is that I can get books in a minute. It's not easy getting paper books here and I usually order them from Amazon, which takes time. The past many years I've been relying on the free bookshelves on island and just get what I get. Since the bookstore here, Papaya Cafe, started taking in used books, the free shelves are pretty bare. Every time I try and get a book at the bookstore I find myself overwhelmed with the confusion of it all. They are literally crammed in the place now in an order that I have yet to figure out. Not only that, they are expensive. It also annoys me to no end to find my books on their shelves. I loan them out and then someone sells to the bookstore, (I can tell they are mine because I put my initials on the first page of the book so I know I've read it).
I just started using the Kindle, and haven't scratched the surface of all it can do, but I think I'm really gonna like it more an more! I am ordering a waterproof case for it (kinda like a dry bag that boaters use) which will make it perfect for sitting on the beach and reading a book while the ocean tickles my feet.
