Daytrip to STT?

Just looking for some opinions. I'll be on STJ for a week and wondering if it's worth it to spend a day on STT. If so, Id go to St. Peter Greathouse, Coral World, and Charlotte Amalie for some souvenirs. If you suggest I go to STT for a day, what do you suggest I do or stay away from. Or should I just stay on STJ the entire week?

Are you a shopper by nature?

I am not and therefore would not waste a day going back to STT.

On the other hand, our travelling friends are hardcore shoppers and she is pissed because her husband won't go over to STT for the day. She would be in heaven strolling through the shops.

We did it our first trip more to say we did than anything else. Hit the ferry, shopped, men had beer, got on a ferry 3 hours later. Not since then have we done such a trip.

People say there's a lot to St Thomas. We've just not been willing to give it a try yet

Unless you have kids I would not go to Coral World. Magens Bay is a beautiful relaxing beach and has great pizza! The water is like calm bath water. You can snorkel at the far left of the beach but this is where we usually just chill for the day. After that I would stop at Udder Delight for a drunkin milk shake.

Another idea would be to start down town at the market square where you can buy "wears" from the locals. Then hang out at (Red Hook area)Coki Beach, there may be allot of people but the atmosphere can be a nice change of pace for a couple hours. Good music, drinks and this is where I have taken the deepest shades of blue water pictures. After that I would head for Duffy's Love Shack and have a shark tank and whatever food they have on special that day. You can also get lots of different drinks that you can have made in really cool drink glasses...I have started a collection! Currently have a tiki guy, hula girl, parrot, and a bikini babe.

If you want history you could do the 99 steps and then the Bluebeards Castle tour, then eat in French Town at Hook Line and Sinker, the yellow tail snapper is great! If you are there for breakfast/lunch go to Bumpas and have the grilled peanut butter, banana and honey sandwich...yummy!
or

Hull bay is a north side beach where you can catch some waves usually and they have a really fun open air bar with great burgers! Be careful...drunken ping pong can be lots of fun but you may be quite a sight to see!

We as you can, see love both islands because we like a little bit of everything! :)

It really depends on what you like. We spent the day in St. Thomas before a late plane a couple years ago and haven't felt the need to go back. However, we go to St. John to really get away. St. Thomas is busier, noisier and, frankly, more like what we're escaping. If you love to shop, it may be worth it. But if you're looking for the tranquility of an island get away, stay on St. John.

I always have fun when we ferry over to St Thomas for the day. I'm not much of a shopper but always enjoy walking around with an adult beverage and maybe finding some unique piece of jewelry or something great for our house. They really have some great shops. Lunch at the Greenhouse is always a must for our group as well. :)

Funny I have found St. John to be more noisy than St. Thomas. We stayed one year on St. John and have never been back due to the power boat racer at 2am in the bay area revving his engine.

Although the Greenhouse is good just go for the drinks. Lunch at Gladys is a must. Also you can tour Bluebeard's Castle but you might get a time share sales pitch. Go to Blackbeards Castle for the tour and do Haagensen house for a tour. Duffy's is also great for drinks and food. I love Coral World even before we had kids. I enjoyed it. We park there and then go to Coki beach next door and enjoy drinks and snorkeling around the Coral World area. Yea, you can shop also but there is a alot to do in St. Thomas besides that and there are other areas to St. Thomas besides Charlotte Amalie. Magen's Bay is a beautiful beach if you just like to hang on the beach. There isn't much snorkeling there. There are mangrove eco tours on the North East side of the island. Stay later and eat at the Old Stone Farm House near Mahogany Run Golf Course.

One of our favorite days is when we go to Sapphire Beach and on the way back we stop at Duffy's Love Shack in Red Hook for their bushwackers which we think are the best on the island! Sapphire Beach is totally "eye candy" it has to be the most beautiful colors of water that we have ever seen. Over where the cruise ships are is the tram up the mountain which gives you unbelievable views! There is so much on STT that you must spend the day!

Gladys Cafe http://www.frommers.com/destinations/st ... 37520.html is a definite MUST for lunch and afterwards wander thru the shops at Royal Dane Mall.

These are converted shipping warehouses dating to the 1700's and are really lovely. It's a maze of fountains, 300 year old buildings and foliage with some interesting shops mixed in.

I also like Cuzzins http://www.frommers.com/destinations/st ... 51716.html on back street (Note: more caution is required at night on backstreet than during the day just use the same caution you would at night in ANY city in the world) for West Indian cuisine and local food.

Greenhouse for happy hour is a good price with nice views of CA harbor.

Magens bay is lovely. As is a look at Ft. Christian which seems to have been under renovation for years now.

And if you're up for jewelry shopping my fave has always been Magnum jewlers. Amazing service, excellent quality in unique settings and great value.

I miss having Duffy's on STJ

When I met my hubby for the first time in Oct of 1996 I was wearing a Duffys Love Shack t-shirt that I purchased on STT.

We started dating four months later and were engaged four months after that. A year later we were married and honeymooned on STJ (he had to see Duffy's for himself!) and TWELVE years later we are still going strong!! :D

If you have a jeep and want to see a beautiful beach on ST Thomas. Go to Neiteburg (miss spelled} The road down is a challenge but the beach is awsome. It's hard to find, turn at the blue tarp..... It's our favorite beach on STT

Maybe my point of view will change one day, but we rue the fact that we don't get to spend more time on STJ, so I can't imagine purposely cutting into that precious time by going somewhere else when we're there...
