wow!
Not having kids, and so just reading, seeing about this on tv, i don't understand how they find the time to do all this texting? i mean, that's a lot of thumb typing.

LMAO!!
I knew the minute I saw the title of your post that it was somebody's kid sending a hug amount of texts per month. I have a daughter too...she usually averages about 3,000.

Yes, she's got unlimited and pays her own bill for it. Before she went unlimited we had a cell bill that suddenly was over $300 because she exceeded her limit. Fortunately I called Alltel right away and they switched the plan retroactively to unlimited for us.

JmQ-
Good article and huge concern of mine.
In some respects, this has been really great for her. She was pretty shy until this year-had lots of friends but the same ones forever. She began texting with some girls in her classes-she didn't know anyone in her class at the beginning of the year, she is in a huge school. So for her, texting was a big step because she never would have called them-just too shy. And now she has lots of friends in her classes in addition to the old ones outside of her classes.
And some of these friends have come over and vice versa and in general I have been really pleased with how nice these new girls are.
HOWEVER, 5922 is way over the top (even if it does count the texts received). Now she DID get her first boyfriend that month AND broke up with him during the same billing cycle...

so let's hope it has slowed down.
Needless to say there will be lots of 'splaining to do when she gets home today.

that is hysterical.
don't be too tough on her--she could be smoking pot and skipping school.

LOL Cal Girl
The sad thing is her facebook action isn't included. Who knows how many instant messages. She literally sits at the computer on facebook, with her ipod on and her phone buzzing away.

It's really something to watch.
I'm not sure whether to put the hammer down or if this is normal. Obviously people are texting her back- alot. This is a tough call cause she gets good grades in honors classes....
I have a friend who refuses to let her daughter participate in any of this and her daughter is having serious social problems. I think she is missing out on a lot of interaction.

Yeah Berlin Girl, we'll have to see who has the worst kid. LOL
I just hope she wasn't on roaming to Tortola or some cruise ship.

Good for you, sounds like "hammertime". Along with the article and the pitfalls mentioned there, I hope you don't mind a piece of advice. I read your first comments a while back and there are some "flags". Too many years of dealing with young women who were finding their way in the middle school years make me take pause. It could be your daughter has just had this burst of confidence and has found her place but....the change in friends, the change in behaviors and now the techno-overload with the phone and IMing etc...keep an eye on things. That is a BIG number- especially knowing that they are in school and/or activities for so many hours in the day, bed and then family time (maybe there was a school vacation week which would give some leeway). When does a kid have that much time to text along with IMing, Facebook etc? Do you read her texts or know what she is texting about? It's important to remember that a teenage mind is not wired to work instantaneously like a computer. They naturally lack the forethought of consequences and as such, will often "say" things or "send" things that they might not say in person. This apparent loss of inhibition does not always represent that child for who they
really are. It's just easy to be bold when you are behind a screen.
