On our last trip in March, we took a sailing daytrip from STJ to JVD and enjoyed the sail but foudn we were very rushed at Foxy's and Soggy Dollar. On our next trip, I'm considering just taking the ferry over for more time to spend there. Anyone done the ferry route? How'd you like? How was it getting from Foxy's to Soggy Dollar? If you've done it, please do tell! Thanks!

Ferry gets you about 5 1/2 hours on JVD. You grab a taxi at the ferry dock and you can arrange for them to pick you up at various places at various times if you want to do both soggy dollar ad foxys. Just tell them how long you want to stay at each location. They are really great about this kind of stuff. They will also get you back to the ferry on time to head home.

We were going to do a trip to jost a couple weeks ago when we were down for my bday and after we were on island (chillin in paradise) and figuring we need to be at ferry 7:45 AM to go hang on a beach bar only to have to hustle to catch a ferry,,, aghh we decided it makes more sense to go absorb paradise save jost for next year when we can spend a couple days at ivans [I'm still trying to convince my wife she can rough it!)and take the hassle(& extra 4 or 5 hours,buzz kill) out of doing a day trip. I've heard you get a bit more flavor if you chill for a day or two on island..Ferry's run from St John Fri Sat & Sun....Life is Good.....Think Deep

Thanks Grommit, Perfect.... your trip report helped convince my wifey she might be able to rough it for a few nites now she got a look a Ivan,s....

@dctac-- See my explanation too. I am a high-end girl but I will tell you that the cabins are very clean and tidy and you are literally steps from the beach.

We'll be sure to look around at the other cabins on this next trip and take photos to share.

Like I said, I probably wouldn't want to stay there in the summer for an extended period of time without AC. But in December I think it will be totally fine.

I guess if we get desperate we can always climb in the rental car for our AC fix!

The key with the wife is to not oversell it. Describe it as basic, cute and cost effective. That way she'll be pleasantly surprised when she gets there!

Of course we're going to bring a few extras down with us for an extended stay: Candles, nicer sheets, and twinkle lights for ambiance (hey, it will almost be Christmas!).

I also bring my iPhone and my teeny portable speakers for some tunes.

With a few extras you can really jazz the place up.

Sometimes, getting back to basics (well, MY kind of basics) is part of the fun!

If you want to go to Jost for the day I would do a ferry over a daysail...for more time on Jost. We had the same problem..had a nice daysail but by time we got to Jost we were rushed. I would plan a daysail for a separate day and take the ferry to Jost. Have fun~
