Our first full day here and RAIN!!! It started raining really early this AM and hasn't really let up - very cloudy, gray, misty! Good for the island but bad for a beach day!!! Hanging out, surfin the internet, reading, drinking and hot tubbing are it for a while till this rain leaves us! Hopefully this is it for the week!!!

Sometimes it's sunny on one side of STJ and pouring on the other...Coral Bay was sunny when it was rainy on the Cruz Bay side....Take a drive. Maybe you can find some sunshine!! Fingers crossed....

Heavy rain continues today. The cisterns are all in good shape and in 10 days or so the skeeters will be out in full force. I think I sde a patch of blue sky. Keep your fingers crossed.

Very odd to drive the Northshore Road and see all the beaches totally empty of people.

Hubs not feeling well last night so we missed the Beabh Bar.

hmmm...rain on St John is better than sunshine ANY place else... Wish I were there...

Looks like I left at just the right time!

I remember one trip we did years ago that was three weeks--it rained for two of the three weeks! IIRC, three tropical waves came in, one after the other. I got a lot of reading done that trip.

Those tropical waves are a bitch.

The first time we brought Flip Flop down with her hubby, one parked right off STJ and just did not move.

Fortunately we ended up with some dry days, even though they were overcast -- and of course Flip Flop still fell in love with STJ.

Rain is bittersweet. Locals love it but tourists hate it.

My (non X rated) rainy day activities include:

-Reading

-Cooking-- Go down to STJ Spice and pick up some spices and one of their island recipe cookbooks; go home and experiment!

-Shopping

-Hanging out at the bar with locals, drinking, chatting and playing games -- (most bars have games or are OK with you bringing games/cards with you as long as you're drinking and eating -- and after a while most don't seem to care!) My fave sposts for this are Island Blues or Skinny Legs.

-Snorkeling & Swimming- if it's not raining too hard.(Though sometimes visibility can be affected and the colors will not be as bright without the sun shining) Heck, you're wet anyway-- but it may be colder getting out.

-Drive around and check out some of the waterfalls (but be careful roads can be slick).

-Watching a DVD at the Villa. (Option of last resort).

I always bring one of those disposable rain ponchos with me. Gives me a lot of flexibility. I keep it in my backpack. It's really lightweight and I look like and idiot wearing it but it keeps me dry in a pinch.

Gromit, I picked up two of those ponchos for us, this last trip. Our first trip was during the week of rain in May '09. Thankfully, we never needed the ponchos in October .
Wishing for enough rain to fill the cisterns, and enough sun to keep the water clear and the hearts happy!
