4th trip, lots of FIRSTS: Part one
Posted: Thu Apr 22, 2010 7:22 pm
Charlie and I are just back from our 4th trip (first was in 2006). We were on island 9 nights and had a GREAT time. In hindsight our trips seem kinda boring compared to others so although I say this is part one I guess we'll see how interesting it seems before I continue - LOL!
We headed down last Monday the 12th. We were able to upgrade both seats to first class (yeah miles!) so I was able to take some shots of our arrival.

Great flight down and we were nearly 25 minutes early in our arrival. WOO! Sounds like a good thing, right? Well .. not really. Since 2 other flights arrived at nearly the same time and our luggage was the last to be handled. So what should have been an easy arrival in Red Hook for the 3pm ferry didn't quite work out. I think we got there about 5 after 3 and the ferry was already out of site. No worries as there is cold beer available at a reasonable price. We chilled at the ferry terminal until it was time to board the 4.
The plan had been to get on the 3, get the car and head to Lily's for some essentials. But since we were on the 4 we skipped Lily's and met our villa greeter (Marc Miller) at the Coral Bay welcome sign.
Marc was quick to arrive and we followed him up Seagrape Hill to Anchorage Aweigh (Coral Bay - FIRST!). Note to Flip Flop - you GOTTA be kidding me walking up there
Marc gave us the down and dirty tour and was off in a flash. AA is a cute place, great for a couple and reasonably priced.

We didn't have any supplies but a quick check of the fridge showed 2 lonely beers in there just waiting to be drank? drunk? consumed! Beck's for him, Caribe for me. Thanks to whomever left these 2 soldiers behind.

After a quick unpack - yes unpacking. this is not code for anything else
- we figured out we were thirsty and hungry so we headed to Aqua Bistro (FIRST!) for dinner and then we ran in to Lily's for stuff.
Skies were threatening so we were seated in the back area so we had cover if needed. Not needed as it turned out. We liked the atmosphere of this place and the food was really good. First up though had to order drinks, of course. Couldn't think of what I wanted so in a nod to FF and LMG's recent trip I ordered a Malibu and pineapple. It wasn't until I took my first big swig did I remember that I drank about 35 of these at my cousin's wedding in 1984 and ended up throwing up on the NJ Turnpike the next day while driving he and his bride to the airport for their honeymoon! Holy flashback - but I soon got over it and ordered another
My dinner Grouper Piccata

After dinner we went in to Lily's to get some items. Lily's had most everything we needed but don't expect brand selection or anything like that. It's a small market with the basics. I did have a little panic attack when I couldn't find any half and half but silly me I was looking by the milk. It was actually located near the vegetables
Whew. I have the makings for coffee, that was all I cared about!
As we were shopping I hit the proverbial wall. Charlie asked me something and my response was "I have no idea what you just said but I have to leave now." So he checked out and loaded up the car. As he was loading he said "did you get Ting?", by the looks of my face he knew I hadn't so back in he went and cleaned them out of the 4 bottles they had.
Back up the hill, quick unpack of the groceries and I think I was out before my head it the pillow.
More FIRSTS to come.......
