Family reunion in Marquette MI. I graduated from Northern Mich. Univ. I loved it up there while I was in school, but now that I've seen so much more, well... you know. My husbands brother lives up there and just built his first custom home for himself. It's definitely not STJ, but by finding this house, I hope to make the best of it. God help me! Let me know if you even want a trip report. Canoeing on Lake Superior fishing pics? Maybe some good sunset pics. Haven't been back there since graduation in 1977. Good grief.

Terry, I'd love to at least see pictures, if not a trip report! We lived in Calumet for a year when my husband was in the Air Force. There used to be (and may still be, for all I know) a remote radar site way out on the peninsula. That was, ahem, 35-ish years ago! I hated the snow, but the spring, summer and fall were the most beautiful I've ever seen! Have a pasty (or is that "pastie"??

) for me!
P.S. That house is awesome!!

My wife was also sent to Sawyer many years ago (1972). She said it was terribly cold and snowy.

I'd love to hear your trip report, Tery! I think Michigan is an incredibly beautiful state, and have spent lots of time up there... Lake City, Pentwater, Grand Rapids

Do tell!

I would be interested in a report. Sunset pictures are always good!

CAGirl...I've got to find a Rosetto Stone that can reteach me Yupper talk, eh? I forgot all about pasties, too funny. And hoagies. I wonder if bars like the Pink Link and Andy's are still around. It will be a trip into the past. I'll put some photos with captions together. We go in June.
It's just that it's at the opposite end of the US from STJ.

And it might put a damper on our expenses for Barcelona in the fall. But, hey, it's family.
Check out this video...CAGirl.

Wow, I never saw the Opera House, but we knew Air Force people who were renting houses with ballrooms for cheap! We never lived in a big fancy place, but there are many really cool old mansions up there. I knew that Calumet was almost made the capitol of Michigan. There was a huge copper rush up there about the same time as the gold rush in California, so you never really heard about it. But there was a lot of money made back then! There's some really cool history up on that peninsula! I'd never seen snow fall out of the sky before we moved there, and I haven't had a desire to see or be in any snow since! We got about 300" that winter!

It snowed on the 4th of July!

Diana was in Calumet-Laurium on that snowy July 4th. The sights are beautiful, but Spring, Summer and Fall all happened in the same two weeks. Any time you see warnings about how cold the water is, you know you are not in STJ. She never did develope a taste for Pasties with gravey or catsup. Using the UP vernacular, Cher, don't be too saucy.
