For all the carry-on only St. John travelers, I'm not sure how many of you saw this on Good Morning America today. If the Association of Flight Attendants get their way it sounds like Congress could be voting on setting the size of carry-ons to a universal size.

Jimm,
I worked for an Aircraft Refinishing company out of Love Field in Dallas back in '86 . Back then , we saw storage facilities loaded with the "four seat" components you now see on almost every airplane .
Workers were replacing the "three seat" sections in some of the 757's...MD80's...727's etc.,while we were there.(Some maintenance workers complained about it making it harder for them to clean the windows).
But you know the Airlines..."More people..More Money".
And for us..."More Passengers...Less Room" !! So it only made sense to us that it is better to carry-on than to use the Check and Lose baggage system .
I'm sure they will figure a way of GOUGING more money from our pockets no matter what they decide  .

I agree with Gromit. I will pay whetever to just check my luggage through! On our trip to STT this past December it was CRAZY the way people were holding up our take off due to trying to cram a large carry on in the over head. The flight attendants were getting very upset and I do not blame them. A few of them had to go check their bags through. Very frusterating for those of us that were in our seats all ready to go.

We are leaving for 12 days in Florida next week and it is our first time flying Southwest. We will see how it goes, but I am lovong the 2 free bags checked per person!

They should just add the fee to the plane tkt price and be done with it. We would never have noticed the diff & all this could have been avoided. Then go back to the old way of 1st bag free & charges for extra after that.

A friend who works as gate agent at JFK, told me that if he lets you on plane w/oversized bag and flight attendants have to check it in on their end,he gets fined. Maybe all airlines should go that route to get rid of all these people with 3-4 pieces of oversized luggage, cramming them in the bins & taking up space that other people need. Besides holding up the plane & passengers while doing so.

It's annoying but the airlines created it.

Why not start weighing people AND their luggage together and then charging appropriately? Me + 40lb suitcase still weighs a LOT less than a lot of people I've sat next to on flights.

 Now I don't think this kettle of fish should be opened up here on this forum. It's supposed to be a happy place. No rants allowed!!

I agree, but it's the unspoken in the world of airline fees. If you're to believe that weight = fuel, I'd wager that the volume of luggage is more or less the same that it's always been. Something else must have changed...other than the airlines getting excessively greedy.
