Was at a museum at Univ of Nebraska with the kids yesterday and saw an earthquake exhibit showing earthquakes occurring around the world. For fun I touched the screen on the VI and it said on 3/20/10 was a magnitude 3.2. Is this true? Not having experienced a quake, what magnitude do you feel a quake? Just curious. Kim

There was a quake on St. John, on our last trip there, in late October. Ruth felt it at the St. John Spice, but we didn't feel anything at Cruz Views. I don't know what magnitude you can feel a quake at...

Don't know of anyone who noticed that one. They are occurring in our vicinity almost all the time, what we feel depends on the distance and the depth as well as the magnitude.A 3.8 would have to be close and shallow to be easily detected. With no serious damage since 1867, we are certainly overdue, as we remind ourselves frequently.

There was an earthquake there on our first trip but we were out with Lion in Da Sun and didn't feel anything.

I remember seeing the trip reports and the people on land definitely felt it.

They happen all the time. We felt one last October.
You can see here where and how often earthquakes occur.
