Hi all, Looking for advice on which Digital camera to purchase for our upcoming trip in April.
Have been using a Kodak easyshare (that we received free with our computer)for yrs.It has taken great pics for such an inexpensive and low tech model.
Would like to upgrade though.
Under $300,point and shoot, some type of docking station to recharge. Ease of use. Great pics...Thanks in advance for any opinions. Laurie

We LOVE the Canon PowerShots - we have an A95, A610 and a S2-IS. Love their lenses, their features - and the fact that they all utilize 4 double A batteries - that seem to last FOREVER!

I recently bought the Canon G7. It is incredible. It does things that my digital SLR's do and it's very small. Purchased an underwater case for it and can't wait to try it out!

Hi Laurie!
After thinking that I had lost our Kodak EasyShare (now found...of course), we purchased a Canon PowerShot SD450...right at $300. I agree with lpowmacback...LOVE the CPS! I especially love the compact size and the rechargeable battery pack. I bought a second battery pack...one for the camera...one on the charger! One of the only complaints I had with our KES was the speed that it used up the batteries. I, too, was impressed with the quality of pictures that it took!
Here is a link to our photos from last year...taken with the CPS. For the simplicity of the camera...I'm thrilled with the quality!

I just recently purchased the underwater housing for the CPS. Can't wait to try it out...we leave Wednesday morning!!!
Feel free to PM if you have any specific ???.

I got a cannon power shot SD600 for about $245 while I was in NO for Mardi Gras. I wanted something I could put in my pocket that would take great pics and I found it! I would like for the batteries to last longer but I guess you can't have aeverything! I got 2 spares since I am a rabid picture taker. I am sure I will take well over 1000 pics the week we are in St John!

With the introduction of the new 770 sw, I believe the 720s can be had for under $300 now. Docking stations are pretty much a Kodak thing aren't they?

We've loved our Canon Power Shot cameras--they're small but reliable. Best pics I've taken from a point and shoot. Plus you can find an underwater case on amazon for $100 or less. This year, we're upgrading to the SD900 model for the trip, but we've had wonderful pictures from our current SD300.

I just bought the Olympus e500 for my trip. It comes with a two lense package. I have used Olympus cameras since the 70's and have been very pleased with them. I would recommend them to anyone, the price is just under 600 for the package I got, but well worth it.

Another vote for the canon powershot. I love mine. We have been through the digital cameras (esp. since having kids - have done olympus, sony and now the canon) and canon is definitely my favorite. Its really small so I don't hesitate to take it with me. Also takes video which is the only way I get any vids of my kids because I am not lugging a video camera around!

sea-nile I got the waterproof case and can't wait to use it! The camera is big enough to hold on to in the water now! I am so excited! I am wondering if anyone has used the little packets of gel that come in thier shoes and cothes to put in the case to keep the humidity down. I am in retail and throw those things away all the time. i could save a few for the trip if they work!

You mean those little packets of silica gel? That might be a good idea... Would it fit inside the waterproof case?

If you are using a water proof case I'd highly recomend them Have had some cameras shut down because of the humidity in the case with the temp change in the water
