note: since i am not a biologist, geologist, food conneisseur, wildlife photographer, novelist or any other type of expert-ologist i just have some random thoughts thru the eyes of a chill-ologist.
-st john is a tropical destination and you are guaranteed nothing, not blue skies, not rainless days, calm winds or water just because you are on vacation.
-machines like jeeps and dinghys don't always work just because you are on vacation.
-coral bay is extremely chill...island blues, shipwreck landing, aqua bistro, donkey diner, skinny's, and miss lucy's (and the crispy collection of transplant 'locals') are enough for me.
-staying right on the ocean is the best way to experience stj...especially drifting off to sleep to the hypnosis of endless waves.
-big maho and francis bays are perfect. period.
-what is that building on the west end of maho?...wonder if anybody would care if i moved in and fixed it up...maybe sell ice cold beach soldiers to the parched to pay for it.
-wearing next to nothing all week (especially socks) makes way more sense than the layers i have on now.
-having a tan is better than pale and pasty...damn the torpedos cancer.
-public works are the same everywhere...one guy shoveling, and 5 guys leaning on theirs discussing his technique.
-that portly porter in cruz bay is going to have a heart attack...weight+exertion+85 degrees=yikes.
-loud mouth rude americans make it harder for all the nice cool ones...so many times i approached a local only to get that 'here it comes' look expecting the worst before i even opened my mouth.
-traveling with only a backpack is not only the path of least resistance, but a refreshing example of less is truly more, and more in tune with the simplicity of stj.
-donkeys, goats, mongoose, and iguanas are cool, but pelicans just don't get enough pub, they are the hardest working most entertaining critters there...the roosters who announce sunup all day long i could do without.
-cracking open the first beach soldier of the day with only pelicans and mary point as witness is priceless.
-putting the real world in the rear view mirror and reconnecting with your better half is well worth the price of admission.
-seeing a red light for the first time on stj (although necessary) was sad anyway...and at the progress rate of 6 feet per day it'll be around for a while...and there'e lots of other rough patches popping up all over.
-dealing with the villa owner directly is the only way to go...in this case chris boyd's siempre azul...professional, flexible and classy.
-4m members are very cool people (although i only met darkanddietwithlime in person)...there needs to be a better way to pick forumites out of the crowd...asking around is goofy.
-although last week was the worst week of weather we've experienced (including flying in and out of it)...can't wait to start the plan for an '11 trip...maybe a boat, i'll have to reread the tr's from gromit and vicki's sailing adventure.
