We want to take some frozen meat down this time..is regular ice ok in our cooler or do we need to use Techni Ice? I'm just a lazy ass and don't feel like pouring through all of that TSA bullshit...

i dunno, but i would think that if you pack things really tight with techni (even without if you are direct--but it is packed tight) you will be fine--thing s we have brought stayed frozen (in luggage hold--not carryon)---i wouldn't do ice cubes/bags.....too many chances that TSA will think you are a threat

Bev - we use techni-ice and have never had a problem with security.

Sweetie...if the meat is frozen, that has been ice enough for us on our trips. By the time we arrive, 10 hours later, everything is still rock hard...just how you like it.
Don't have too much open space in your cooler...Size the cooler to your load.
Yes, I said load.
I can do this all day if you want
(That's what she said)

LOL @ Pip. Now, I can't get that phrase out of my mind.
I'm with Pip on this one. Last July, I froze 10 steaks, 10 chicken breasts, bacon, and GF bread the week before our trip. The day before we left, I packed it all in a 24-pack Polar Bear insulated cooler without any techni-ice or ice. It was still frozen when we arrived at our villa.
On our cooking-at-the-villa days, I moved the meat from the freezer to the fridge. When we came home that evening, it was thawed and ready to cook. It was our first experience as cooler people. But it was so easy and convenient, we're doing it again next trip.

It's just the two of us so I wasn't planning to bring a big cooler. Will there be an issue if I carry it on??

TSA: Lady, what is that?
Bev: I'm packing meat.
TSA: Please step over here.
Crash: You gonna check my junk too?
Bev: WTF!
We bring a cooler and check it in. Never carried our stash in the overhead bin. The risk is minimal - one time in 10 years it was "late"...we waited at the car barge the next day for pickup.

We just froze our meat, as well, and wrapped it in newspaper, and it was still frozen when we arrived on St. John. And we don't even have a Polar Bear cooler...just some $25 jobbie from Target.
No worries!

We pack our Polar Bear cooler using techni-ice and my husband carries it as his personal item. We only do carry on. Each of us has a small suitcase, he has the cooler and I have a backpack as personal items. Works well for us!

Bev, I carried the cooler on and no questions were asked. As far as I know, there are no TSA rules prohibiting frozen food. If they give you any trouble, just tell them pj said it was ok. lol
