We've been to Jost Van Dyke on a charter (Breakaway) & with Captain Phil on the Wayward Sailor (awesome!) in the past.
In April we are going for a day trip from STJ & back same day. Please tell me everything I need to know or helpful tips in going on the ferry from STJ to Jost in one day.
Thank you so much!

Pretty straightforward. The ferry runs Friday through Tuesday. Leaves Cruz Bay at 830. 60/pp roundtrip, 40/pc.

Clear customs on JVD, then take a cab (5/pp) to your destination. In our case, we were at Soggy Dollar by 1030.

Ferry departs at 330. We were picked up by the cab driver at 230, as he had to make multiple stops.

I think you can rent a car, but I have never done this.

Enjoy

Renting a car is not necessarily worth it unless you really want to drive around Jost and explore. If you just want to hang out at Soggy Dollar or Foxy's your best bets are the taxis.

We only rent a car if we're staying at Ivan's overnight.

What is the distance from the arrival point in JVD to White Bay? (is that Great Bay to White Bay) Just wondering if walking is an option

Walking is an option, but it's a very long, very hot, very hilly option.

@Pianogrl:

First, bring your own black or blue pen with you to fill out customs forms (be prepared to share with others who were not so prepared).

Second, when you arrive at the ferry dock on Jost grab a taxi and ask them to take you to Soggy Dollar. Arrange for a pickup a bit later if you want to head over to Foxy's.

Grab a lounge chair on the beach. Someone will come out and ask you for $5 (rental fee for the chair) and it's yours for the day. You can pick any one of the establishments along the beach for food and drinks. All are good options. The wings at Gertrudes especially rock. Her bathrooms are also nice and tidy.

After lunch meet you taxi driver and head over to Foxy's for a drink and shopping along the sandy main road. Arrange with the taxi driver to pick you up in time to get you back to ferry. They are all great at this and they will get you where you need to be on time.

Last but not least... ENJOY!!

Oh and the nioght before I leave I grab acouple of water bottles, fill them up and put them in the freezer. I wrap them in a towel and put them in my backpack. That way I have ice cold water pretty much throughout the day and can stay hydrated.

Its really super easy. Just show up by 8 and be ready for some paperwork. They walk you through it all. Once we hit the land, we hop in a taxi and head to Soggy's. Ivan's is just a short walk away (but I recommend taking your shoes).

We've left Soggy's to head to Sidney's for lunch in the past, but this time just kind of stayed put and it was a great day.

You get about 5 good hours or so on island which is never enough for me, but a great way to spend a day!
