We left at 10 PM to drive from Syracuse to JFK-one way van rental from National.
Me (Scoob)better half and pixiegirl and friends with 2 boys 9 and 12==7 of us
Only hitch and big one.. American canceled our flight because of the ash from Montseratt !!

they told us we could come back and fly on Wednesday(4 days later)
Our daughter found a flight with room on Monday with USAIR out of Phili.Rented another van and drove sleep deprived .Stayed at the Marriott attached to the airport and had a great room,with a great price !!
The kids loved the pool and we were all very content for the 2 days.

Got to St.Thomas on Monday Staying at Bluebeards Castle...dinner and Karaoke at Dungeon bar
Lot's of Heineken that night !!

Tuesday ..daysail on Daydreamer to Jost Van Dyke,
very nice time-and attentive to boys..

Wednesday..Magen's Bay and lunch at Emerald Bay(met sister-inlaw at Frenchtown -was sailing for a week and needed a ride to airport)Dinner at Greenhouse

Thursday..back to Magen's -boy's love to beack and concession stand !!! birthday dinner at Mafolie for Randy .very nice

Friday.Lindquist on our own and met friends at Wyndham -boys loved to play basketball in pool
Dinner at Blue Moon

Saturday..Went to Bluebeard's beach club-beach for us and pool for boys !
Great volleyball game and drinks at pool bar

Sunday,took car barge to St.John and beach hopped till time for drinks !!Missed seeing you Ruth ,but enjoyed shopping..Drinks at Beach bar,dinner at Uncle Joe's ,then off to Woody's and Beach bar again..

Monday,Last day..Magen's for the day-lots of good playtime with boys..Back to Blue Moon for dinner.. one of our favs

On Saturday we had to downsize to one condo-- no problem !! Roz and boys had bed..Betterhalf and Pixiegirl had fold out couch.
Randy and I did the noble thing and had the rollaway beds.!!
We had a GREAT time bunking together-it was a fun challenge !

Up early Tuesday ,,flying American thru Miami to Phili.
Plane was held in Miami and had us concerned (rain in Phili)-got to Phili at 6:30-
another rental car back to Syracuse (Lets go Orange ) ,,
Got home at 12:30--
long trip but worth it !!

Thanks for the trip report...it's been quite dry around here! Wow...Scoob...You have the patience of a saint!

Cancelled flight, then a forced drive to another airport and a two day wait in an airport hotel...
did you get a full AA refund??? US air flights reasonable?? Yeah, can understand why you neededs lots of Heinken.

How was your property and wondering about dinner at the Blue Moon? Is it still great? Going in April...

No we were not offered anything from AA.
Once they have your $$$,they try to place you.
I understood the plane was grounded for safety and it's one of the busiest weeks for family travel going south (Presidents week )
What was upsetting at the time was we knew USAIR,Cont and Delta flew through the ash !!
But if owned a plane,I wouldn't ruin the engines flying through ash !!would do the same as they did ...
Alot of options were on the table for us too,maybe a drive to Sarasota ( condo)??
All we knew is that we were not going home !!

Stayed at the airport Marriott -the place was very reasonable- $139 with great breakfast !!
And we did enjoy many drinks around hot tub while boys played in the pool

Bluebeard's is in the process of renovation.Our condo has new bedding and furnishing..
The front of the house is getting a facelift and its good to see some $$$ go back into it !

The Bluemoon is one of favs and always good-we went on the night they had a steel pan player.
We eat on the bar side ..but you can order from both bar and restaurant menus.
Our friends really enjoyed it there also..
