Any information on the road to reef bay? Also beach access? Our villa rep said steep stairs from our villa, I am wondering if this means scary steep?
Also we are going to take the ferry over to jost.
$50 each way? Also if you arrive on the ferry, and want to go to soggy dollar do we need a cab?
Thanks everyone!

It is $50 roundtrip. The ferry arrives in Great Harbor. It is about a 1/2 mile to Ivan's Campground (at least 15-20 minute walk - but it's straight up a hill). Ivan's Campground is next door to Soggy Dollar. You can walk it, but I think a taxi is only $4 - $5 per person each way. We have walked from Soggy Dollar into town and then took a taxi back. I don't think you could walk it very easily after spending the day at Soggy Dollar. We are also going to St. John this summer and are considering taking a ferry to Jost for the day. It's a lot cheaper than a charter.

I am curious what villa you are staying in that has access to Reef Bay. Would you mind sharing?

We enjoy Reef Bay when we stay near-by. As far as the steps from Reef Bay Rd. the first 20(?)feet from the road is steep. A rope is used to assist you up/down the rough steps. After that it levels out into the underbrush. If a picture is worth a thousand words, a video is worth a million. This On-StJohn video is great.

and here is a video of Reef Bay;

and here is one of the petroglyphs that can be reached from Reef Bay;

If you decide to trek toward the Reef Bay trail/ruins/petroglyphs mark the trail where it lets you out on Parrot Beach with a stick or something, check tidal tables to be sure you can negotiate the rock scrambles going to and returning from Reef Bay and bring a flashlight in case you have to hike the underbrush and climb the rough steps in quickly fading light.
Let us know how you liked Surfside. It is always on my villa check list.
