we are planning a trip to St. John in May, but are considering spending our last two nights in BVI. We thought that staying near the baths would give us a couple of days to really enjoy them. Is it feasible to travel inexpensively and easily from St.John to VG for two nights or should we consider ending our trip on Tortola instead? I tried to search the forum for similar post, but had difficulty with the search tool.

We have bacically the same trip planned in May, but we have chosen to stay on Tortola for our last 3 nights.

I noticed on the schedule that it states it leaves STJ for VG on Tues, Thurs & Fri, but to call to confirm.

I don't beleive that you will have to go all the way back to STJ before going on to STT when going home.
I know that we have been told that we can go directly to STT from Tortola.

We are planning to take the ferry from St John to VG on a Sunday in the end of April. I think it operates on Thursdays and Sundays (and maybe Tuesdays). It's a fast and convenient way to go there.

On the way back we just take the ferry to Roadtown, Tortola and then change to the ferry to Charlotte Amalie and then taxi to the airport. No need to go back on the same ferry unless you are actually going back to STJ.

That Sun/Th ferry is pretty sweet - direct to VG in about 90 minutes from STJ. The drop down box shows other ways to get to VG thru Tortola other days of the week and likewise how to get back to STJ or STT on other days of the week.
Or, if you are still building your trip from scratch, and if the VG airport is still open in May, take Air Sunshine to San Juan to connect back to the world. No back tracking and extra ferry time that way.

You can get to Virgin Gorda any day of the week but you will have to ferry to Road Town Tortola and then take the ferry to Virgin Gorda from there. Otherwise, you are limited by the days the ferry runs from St John.

If you're traveling through San Juan on your return, you can take a ferry from VG to Tortola and fly to SJU from there. The ferry goes to Trellis Bay on Tortola, which is just a short walk to the airport.

We did the ferry to Virgin Gorda in November, and it was reasonably fast and easy. Only Thur. and Sun. runs, but if that works for your plans, it's an easy way to travel.

Oops wrong thread maybe thats the Virgin Gorda ferry. My coffee hasn't kicked in yet Anyways this was a very timely post. The honey and I are hoping for a Virgin Gorda trip in the fall.

A couple of years ago in January, we stayed on St Thomas for a few days and then on to VG for a week. Didn't want to fool around with the ferry so used Dolphin Shuttle. Nice people, but boat not large enough to accommodate the rough waters getting to VG. We ended up taking on quite a bit of water and turning around and heading to Tortola...taxi to WE and then on to VG. What a scary and expensive lesson! Depending on the seas, the larger ferry is the way to go!
