Hey guys question....
This will be the first time we are traveling during Hurricane season. Truly I don't care because I love STJ so much that it doesn't matter to me if it's raining

. Raining there is better than sunshine here in VA.
Just wondering if anyone has been during this time (which I am sure someone has) and if you would kindly give me some input.
Hope everyone is well!!
Jackie

Hubby and I went to St Croix last Oct. Heat and humidity were about the same as STJ in May. The wind seemed to be more cooling, though. Mosquitoes were not a problem. The water was the warmest we've ever experienced. Rain was spotty and of short duration. (It only rained on us once ; on our departure day...fitting). It seemed to rain only on the north shore. And best of all, it wasn't crowded at all. Oct. is towards the end of hurricane season so we didn't fret and had a great time!

My husband and I have been going to the Caribbean in October for 6+ years. Weather is generally very warm and can be rainy. Only one time we were faced with a hurricane (Omar) and another time we were hit with a tropical wave that lasted for 4 days + of rain. It is a gamble but odds are generally in your favor. Just keep in mind a lot of restaurants do close during this time. Also I would be sure to take out traveler's insurance if you do decide to go during this month.
We enjoy going this time (1. its our anniversary) and (2. no crowds).

My husband and I have been to STT 3 times in late October and the weather has been beautiful...hot, but beautiful! We have actually only had a rainy week once and that was for 3 days straight...not good. The crowds are somewhat less so that is a plus.

Two words: Trip Insurance.
Otherwise you should be good!

Hello Jackie, we have traveled to STJ in October the last 3 years. We stay during Halloween week. Weather has been great all 3 years. As some of the previous forum members have stated rain is usually short lived. Parking is usually a little easier and beaches are less congested. As gromit suggested trip insurance is recommended.
Have fun planning if you decide on the Halloween week there are usually quite a few forum members on the island at that time.

Thanks for the feedback guys! It's the date my brother has picked to get married so it appears that will be when we have to go
I have been offered trip insurance previously but never really took it since we went in January and then in April etc. Any details on what it covers?

CSA Travel Protection fairly inexpensive but good piece of mind just in case!

I traveled to STJ with a group this past October. By far my favorite time of year so far-- it was so nice and quiet. Sure, some places are closed but you can work around that in exchange for an entire afternoon on a beach with no one else in sight.
We insured our trip about 60 days out and it was just under $200 for everything. Well worth it, and we used CSA through this site.
Edited to add: The insurance we chose covered trip cancellation/changes due to weather, natural disaster, etc. for flights and lodging. There are a whole other host of "what-ifs" covered as well that you can read in detail on CSA's site. It was actually quite a comfort.

.
Asolare, Balcony, Zozo's any of those...of course Woody's will be open and we can do a Jost juant right?

The wonderful Ruth of St. John Spice hosts a list of restaurant closings on her website. Here is a link--obviously it's not updated for fall 2010 yet, but this is where you will find it:

I've been twice in October and it's really great. The island is quiet, the beaches are not crowded, the water is the warmest, and the seas are calm, so visibility is great for snorkeling. It's hot but not as humid as the summer months, which makes hiking enjoyable. You will have a great time.

We also traveled in October and found it fabulous! Heard hard rain while we were sleeping a couple of nights but that was it.
The day we arrived there were 5 weddings at our resort! Seems to be a popular month since its relatively cheap for all the wedding guests!
I would only buy travel insurance IF your brother does, not like he's gonna cancel his wedding and i'm sure you'll still attend, right?
