Hello
Last time we were on STJ we could not find a place that sevred Roti's and this is one thing I do not want to miss this time. Can you reccomend where to find a good Roti? Also I see several different vendors i.e. Sheila's Pot, Hercules, etc - can you reccomend one or more and do they mind if you check out what they have before ordering. We are on a budget so if you can reccomend any cheap eats I would appreciate it. I plan on the Surly Cantina, Beach Bar for lunch, Candies and or Uncle Joes.

Thanks - I am SO excited!!!

Be sure to check out Sogo's, too. Good, local food at a decent price.

I second Sogo's too-we ate there before catching the ferry to go back home  Always a must stop for us. Fyi, she's located next to Conrad Suttons's car rental. Big portions-love the veggie platter.

Third Sogo's. Good food, good prices, and realllly nice people! Blaine loved their burgers...really big ones. I had the curry goat and it was good.
One of my trip reports from last trip had prices for Sheila's Pot. Very cheap and LOTS of food. You choose the main dish (curry chicken, stewed chicken, pork chops, etc) and she adds all kinds of sides. There might be something in the package that you don't like, but there'll be plenty in the package that you will, and you will have leftovers...guaranteed.

Oh, and there's Hercules for Pate, cheap. It's across from the Lumberyard.
And there's a cheap chinese place in the Lumberyard.

Don't forget Sputnik's in Coral Bay, next to the Donkey Diner. It used to be Thursday was "Roti" special day.

I had great roti at Island Blues. It was the lunch special on the day we went...and you cant beat the view.

IMHO, the best roti is served at the Foxy's on Jost!

Sogo's is now on my list to try with the family in June. My wife and I saw it every time we parked the Jeep at Mr. Sutton's last summer, but never stopped (kicking myself again now that I know they've got good roti!).

The best roti I had last summer was actually at Soggy Dollar on Jost. We were at Foxy's too early for lunch...or (dare I even say it) drinks for that matter! Ok...maybe I was just wimping out that day and I'll try to do better next time.

Here it was:

Right on about a good Roti!
We had our first last year at Foxy's, and they were wonderful.
I've got to also give props to a good 'Johnny Cake'.
They rule. Hercules rocks it way out, man.
Also Uncle Joe's bbq on STJ, then when I have time, some Sweet & Tangy Fiji Wings on STT at Duffy's Loveshack.
We're looking forward to hitting Shela's in April,...can't wait!
These pretzels are making me thirsty!!!
Smiles-
MJ

I'm not sure Sogo's has roti, so if that's the only dish you're interested, you might want to call ahead. They do have good food.

Roti & other cheap eats

I also don't think Sogo's has roti on the menu.
Roti is not as common on St. John as in the BVI or St Thomas.
Soggy Dollar's Roti is the best Roti I've ever had, better than Foxy's.
Sogos is great place to eat, just not sure Roti is on the menu.
Here's their number if you'd like to call & ask: SOGO'S: (340) 779-4404.

We've got "cheap eats" at The Tourist Trap
and you can take the bus from the ferry dock to our front door for only $1.
Check out our menu, no roti, but lots of other homemade affordable foods:

I also love Sogos.

The last time we were there the owner told us that there are certain days they have roti.

That is my favorite thing there, but as someone else mentioned, the veggie plate is awesome too. A nice change of pace.

I especially like Sogos also as they are just a really nice family owned business.

Ditto for Sheila's Pot- so much food with the sides my wife and I split an order- $20.00 if I recall- plenty to eat. Her sautéed conch-was wonderful!!

Hey - Thanks everyone for the great input! We will defintaly check out Sogo's. For that matter there looks like a couple of places we will be checking out for the first time. If we make it over to Jost I know I'll be able to complete my Roti mission, but still hoping to find one close to home, I am a Roti maniac.

April soon come
